Wordless Wednesday–MAN OF STEEL!!!
Book-Talk Monday: How Has Reading Improved Your Life?
Open Book by Dave Dugdale
I saw this (fun) piece on BuzzFeed last week:
12 Scientific Ways Reading Can Actually Improve Your Life
And it’s fun because it’s absolutely true.
I’m also currently teaching an online literature course, and for the first two weeks, the students have had to answer questions about reading, so I thought we could use that (somewhat modified) to get some discussion about reading going today.
How has being a reader of fiction improved/enhanced your life?
and
Is popular/genre fiction (romance, mystery, thriller, suspense, etc.) just as worthy of being considered and analyzed as “serious literature”—can it have as great an impact on or insight into society/human nature?
Fun Friday—Summertime Movies: Man of Steel

Y’all already know I’m a movie freak, and this summer promises some great blockbusters. I’ve already seen Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness (twice!).
Here’s the big movie I’ll be attending next weekend—one I’ve been anticipating for a long, long time!
.
Who else plans to see this while it’s in theaters?
Trailer Thursday: Not Technically a Trailer
This isn’t technically a trailer, but I’d love you to share your thoughts on it anyway.
Wordless Wednesday–There’s Something Familiar About That Girl
What Are You Reading? (June 2013)

It’s the first Monday of the month. Get your lists ready!
.
- What book(s) did you finish reading (or listening to) since last month’s update?
- What are you currently reading and/or listening to?
- What’s the next book on your To Be Read stack/list?
Writer-Talk Tuesday: Neil Gaiman on the Possible and Impossible
Book-Talk Monday: Summer reading lists
Next week is our regular day to check in with our reading reports from the past month, and I always ask what’s next on your TBR pile. Usually, none of us know for sure what we’re going to pick up next—for the most part, for me, it really is just whatever sounds interesting at the moment I’m looking for something new to read.
But today, before we get to that next week, I want to talk about something we’ve all probably been hearing—if not thinking—about for a few weeks now . . .
Summer Reading Lists
Now, if your life is anything like mine, summer is no less busy than any other time of the year. But we do tend to take vacations or spend more time relaxing pool- or lakeside in the warmer months, which means more time to read. So that’s what I’d like to talk about today.
What books will you make time to read this summer?
Do you already have some picked out?
For our friends down south—I mean WAY down south in New Zealand and Australia and elsewhere—since you’re getting ready to enter the winter months, does that mean more time for reading? Do you have any books you’d really like to read in the next few months?
