I’d have to go with grapes on this one. Not only do I like to eat fresh grapes, but they can be made into juice or jam. Dry them, and you’ve got raisins. But most importantly, I can’t have my wine without grapes!!! 😀
My favorite way to eat pears is to get canned pear halves (sugar-free, of course), fill the center with mayonaise, and sprinkle grated mild cheddar cheese over them. It’s definitely a Southern thing!
I think you have to grow up with it to like it. I don’t really think it’s something someone could come to and enjoy as an adult—though I think it tastes great. Of course, I like pears in grilled-cheese sandwiches, too (especially if the cheese is brie).
hmm… pears in a grilled cheese sandwich actually does sound good. Maybe it’s just the mental image I get from canned (barf) pears and mayo, hehe. Totally hear you on eating things from childhood.
Jason I know some who use water for Communion cos they have people who cant drink grapejuice. (I dont drink so im ok)
I would say Pineapple as I have salad year round and use Pineapple alot also like Pineapple juice. (Tomato would be second cos I like alot of things made with tomato).
I didn’t even consider tomatoes when thinking about fruit. I know that technically they’re considered a fruit, but I use them the way I use vegetables, so that didn’t even cross my mind. Hmmm . . .
I can only imagine what it would be like to enjoy ripe mango—or papaya or kiwi or any other kind of tropical fruit—as I’m deathly allergic to all of them (with kiwi being the worst). There’s an enzyme in them that makes my throat swell shut. 😦
I like cooked vegetables, and dislike raw one. Raw carrots,
salary, and cucumbers do not taste good. I love ripe bananas
because they taste so delicious! Yummy, yummy!
Unlike tropical fruit, I don’t eat bananas . . . simply because I can’t stand the taste, smell, or texture of them. I can’t even eat banana pudding or banana creme pie or anything banana flavored, I just can’t get over the flavor/smell.
Bananas would be my husband’s choice. He eats one EVERY DAY, and has been as long as we’ve been married (9 years). Even if I liked bananas, which I don’t, I think I’d have gotten sick of them by now.
I would have to go with apples. I love grapes, but apples can be cooked or eaten raw, made into lovely pastries, and dipped into caramel. 🙂 Yep. It’s apples, for me.
I love apples . . . but only certain varieties, which, unfortunately, tend to be the more expensive ones—honeycrisp, pink lady, braeburn. The ones that tend to have tighter “meat” and are a little more tart-sweet. I find that varieties like red-delicious have a grainy texture that bothers me.
I would probably say apples. You can eat them whole, cut up, diced, in a salad, in a pie or cobbler and lots of other ways. There’s nothing like hot apple pie! 🙂
I’ve been putting diced apple in chicken salad lately. In fact, with those and dried cranberries, my chicken salads have been turning out more like a Waldorf salad with chicken in it than a true chicken salad.
Huckleberries. It’s one of the few fruits I’m not allergic to and can eat fresh off the bush. They freeze well for cobblers, pies, and cakes all year. They dry well for cereals and oatmeal, and I suppose they’d make a passable juice, if pressed. 🙂
Very much a Western fruit—and something I’m woefully unfamiliar with. I’ve had huckleberry preserves before and really enjoyed that, but have never had them fresh.
Apples. There is nothing like a fresh, sweet, juicy apple. And I agree with Sylvia and Regina on the diversity of cooking with them. I love fruit, we are a fruit eating family!
Once I get to a point in my low carb program at which I can have something made with the Splenda brown sugar (which does have some real sugar in it), I like to slice an apple, sprinkle it with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a little nutmeg and “bake” it (in the microwave). One of my favorite low-carb desserts!
I guess I’d probably go with grapes for the reasons stated above – particularly because I like a glass of wine a few times a week. I don’t eat a lot of fruit (not counting vegetables that are technically fruit) and would manage pretty well without it. Don’t touch my veggies though!
Apples. Granny Smith or Red Delicious, for sure, although I’d be open to other varieties. You know the old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

Hmm…good question. I was about to say apples until I read your idea of grapes…I think I’m going to have to go with grapes.
Can’t have communion without them. 🙂

Pears. Love them fresh in season. Used to can them. Although I do love frozen red grapes.

I can’t stand Red Delicious either and people think I’m so strange. Why would I want to eat those when the Pink Lady exists?

Same here, I like the crisp sweet-tart ones, not the grainy sweet-sweet ones
