Wait . . . This is a REAL Movie???
Yep. It releases March 1, 2013.
Synopsis (from Coventry Telegraph – The Geek Files by David Bentley)
An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.
Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them.
Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

First On-Set Photos from the Production of Catching Fire Released

Click the image to go to a slide show of Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, and Mags shooting a scene from Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy. (And if you’ve read the book, you’ll immediately know which scene it is, too!) Who’s looking forward to this movie?
(And can I take this opportunity to say how much I love the fact that Jennifer Lawrence isn’t the same stick-thin figure we’re so accustomed to in leading ladies? I would kill for that perfect hourglass of hers!)

The Latest in the “Must Parody Music Video” Trend
There are too many artists to count who’ve made a living at parodying popular music (the main one being Weird Al Yankovic, of course—and I must say, he puts on a fabulous concert!). But in the YouTube age, this is now open to anyone who wants to do it. A couple of months ago, it was all about “Call Me Maybe.” But now, it’s the completely incomprehensible “Gangnam Style” by Psy. (And that’s not a comment on the fact it’s in a foreign language—I find it incomprehensible that the song itself is so popular. But, then I’m a total nerd when it comes to music anyway.) So, here’s the (seemingly) mandatory Star Trek parody of “Gangnam Style”:

Book-Talk Monday: What Are You Reading (December 2012)

It’s the first Monday of the month. So I hope you have your lists ready!
.
- What book(s) did you finish reading (or listening to) since last month’s update?
- What are you currently reading and/or listening to?
- What’s the next book on your To Be Read stack/list?
Our Guilty-Pleasure Foods
Thanksgiving is a holiday that has become synonymous with food. The turkey. The dressing. The green bean and sweet potato casseroles. The cranberry sauce (whether whole or canned). And the desserts! (In my family, this year it was salad, steak, baked potato, and peach dump cake because it’s just three of us and we’re not big fans of turkey anyway.)
But Thanksgiving kicks off the the holiday season, and as we all know, that means Season’s Eatings. Then, I saw this article on The A.V. Club’s website: “The worst foods we love.” This, combined with the news about Hostess (possibly) going out of business and taking away our (name-brand instead of Little Debbie or store-brand knockoff versions of) Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and Ho-Hos, has brought junk food to the top of my mind.

With Hostess products no longer on the shelf, Little Debbie is
already starting to take over the snack-cake world! Mwahahaha!
(Okay, it’s not like it really takes much more than getting out of bed for junk food to be top of mind for me. Sometimes it doesn’t even take getting out of bed before I’m thinking about unhealthy foodstuffs.)
I identified with MOST of the “worst foods” listed in the A.V. Club article.
If I had to pick my top three “worst foods” (and this is really hard to narrow down), they’d be:
.
1. McDonald’s Big Mac Extra Value meal (size Medium) with Dr. Pepper to drink.
2. Top Ramen (beef flavored, with added red pepper flakes for heat)
3. Starbucks Mocha Java ice cream (when they have it at Kroger, which isn’t all the time, thank goodness!)
.
What are your top three “worst foods”/junk-food addictions?

A HOBBIT Trailer/Preview Supercut
Some enterprising person has made a supercut video, taking all of the scenes from all of the previews, trailers, and teaser spots for The Hobbit, put them in chronological order, and stitched them together into this . . . a mega-preview of the movie that’s more than seven and a half minutes long!
.
Who plans to go see The Hobbit as soon as it hits theaters?

Concept Cafés from Around the World
I’ll agree—Frothy Monkey is an odd name for a coffeehouse/café (yes, it’s a real place, which I use in the Matchmakers series). But there, it’s just the name that’s strange. Here’s an article about ten “concept cafés” from around the world. I’d have to say the one that immediately shoots up to the top of my list is the 100% Chocolate Cafe. Which ones would you like to visit? Which ones are crazy?

Say It Ain’t So!
According to The Mary Sue, plans are in the works for a sequel to the 1980s buddy-film Twins which paired Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger as genetically engineered twins who discover each other’s existence as adults—and antics ensure. Guess who’s going to play their long-lost triplet brother . . .

34 Insanely Simple Two-Ingredient Recipes
I’m a HUGE fan of simpler-is-better when it comes to cooking. Because of health reasons, there aren’t a lot of these that I’ll be trying, but most of them sound great. (Except for the ones that use bananas—yuck!) These are just in time for the holidays, though, because many of them look like they would be great to take to parties or set out at an open house.

Book-Talk Monday: Favorite Book Covers

We haven’t talked about book covers in a long time. Many of us who are on Pinterest have boards where we collect images of book covers we really like, but we haven’t shared them here for quite some time. So today’s the day to remedy that.
We all love a gorgeous, unique, eye-catching book cover. Post links to some of your favorites. (More than 2 or 3 links per post will get your comment flagged as spam, so you may want to break them up into multiple comments.)
Here are a few of my recent favorites (you can see more here):
And this last one is an image I found on Pinterest, and if Ransome’s Honor is ever re-released with a new cover, this is the one I want:
