#FirstDraft60 Day 33: THORsday Thursday! #amwriting #1k1hr #nanowrimo2016

Thursday, November 3, 2016

How is your challenge going after the second day of writing? Have you hit a stumbling block already (I did—I missed yesterday’s goal by 844 words).

Well, that’s okay. Remember, the important thing is that we pick right back up today and face today’s goals (and challenges) head on, as if yesterday’s stumble never happened.

On Thursdays, we’re going to do an alternate version of Timer Tuesday—this time, instead of challenging ourselves to sit at the computer and try to crank out as many words as fast as we can, the challenge is to get away from the computer.

thorsdayWhat Does THORsday Mean?
It’s pretty simple. Our writing challenge for today is:

What that means is that for the length of time you designate (half an hour, 45 minutes, an hour, etc.), you will write by hand (on actual paper). You will turn off all of your Internet-connected devices (or put them away/get away from them). And you will find a remote spot in which to work—in other words, don’t do this at the same place where you usually write. Go into a different room. Go outside. If you can, get out of the house and go work somewhere else, like your public library or a coffee shop.

Otherwise, try to follow all of the same tips that we use for regular 1k1hr writing sprints. (Refresher here.)

Assignment: Leave a comment with your THORsday goal—when, where, and for how long do you plan to do your handwritten challenge today?

I like this idea. Don’t really feel well enough to get out today, but I can definitely do some writing longhand. In fact, need to get on it soon since I have a big fat goose egg for yesterday.

I stumbled a bit yesterday too, missed my goal by just under 1000 words. I haven’t gotten in my writing yet today, I have a lovely head cold so I went back to bed this morning but it really seems to ruin the stride of my day. I’m also just seeing this post but I’m going to use it to get in some writing. I think I’ll start with a small with a goal of 500 words in 30 minutes and see how that goes then maybe do it again. 🙂

I did an hour of THOR writing tonight and shocked myself. I wrote 725 words–a record for me in one hour! The writing itself was of terrible quality but will be redeemable in an edit, I believe. Maybe freehand is the way to go for me. I’ll need to invest in a wrist brace, if so! 🙂
