Writer-Talk Tuesday: What are you writing?
Tuesday, November 8, 2011

.
It’s writer-talk Tuesday.
So . . . tell us what you’re writing. Are you participating in NaNoWriMo, writing end-of-term papers for school, or maybe participating in a blogging challenge? What are your goals and what plans have you put into place to prepare for success?

I am using NaNoWriMo to finish the last chapters of my Science Fiction novel, Dream Walker. It’s about a young woman who wakes up in a strange, shifting land and witnesses a murder. But what she thinks was only a dream, turns out to be all too real.

I’m writing my newly contracted novel A Design for Love for Abingdon’s Quilts of Love series. It is set in 1769, Boston, MA. I’ve written 18,000 of 55,000 over the past 3 weeks while I was sick in bed. I’m going to try to keep up the momentum, but know I’ll have other things calling at me now that I’m feeling better.

I’m completing (ha! as if…) edits and polish on a 98K MS and will be submitting it to an agent very soon. WIsh I could NaNoWriMo the next one but not yet. I haven’t plotted enough yet anyway.
I’m writing historical romantic suspense with a gothic feel. 1837. Great year, eh, Kaye?

I’m writing a science fiction story (maybe more science fantasy) about a young woman with a gift for healing in the midst of an epidemic of a flu-like disease that depletes the serotonin producing ability of the brain. The powerful Guild wants to take her in as an apprentice healer to hone and focus her gift. Or so she thinks. The motives of the Guild Elders are less than honest, for she, and a few others like her, make natural antibodies to the disease. Unfortunately, harvesting those antibodies leaves the donor an empty shell.
I’m not doing NaNo. My goal for November is 15,000 words. I’d love to complete the novel by 12/31, but the more likely date is 1/31/12.
I’ve discovered that if I write during the 45-60 minutes I wait between when I get off work and my husband gets off work (we work at the same place), I get quite a bit done.

I’m doing NaNo – the first book in what I hope will become the CANDID Romance series. Set at a conference similar to ACFW’s. My current… tag or whatever is:
Two writers. One heroine. One hero. One big secret.
For whatever that’s worth. 4146 in – am way behind but will catch up soon hopefully. Last week was insanely busy and this week is to an extent but have actually written the last two days since I’m not cleaning for a family visit.
I’m also doing NaBloPoMo but I don’t think I signed up right :/. So not sure if it’ll count. Am posting daily about NaNo plus reviewing some books as I go.
But now i must go get ready to teach Poli Sci…

I’m writing for NaNo. Trying to get a solid start on my second book in my suspense series and making myself write something every day. So far it’s working, ask me how it went around Thanksgiving, <}:^)

Started Nano and then switched over to my novel from last year. The goal is to finish it this month as an alternative for nano and then start the long journey in attempts to get it published. =)

I’m on the macro edit pass of my historical, started in Feb, and adding a third character’s POV to even out some elements that started strong but got neglected along the way in the first draft. As soon as the morning’s migraine eases up some I plan to knock out a new scene, or at least rough it and the rest of a chapter in so I have good bones to hang some flesh on tomorrow.
Eeww. But I’ll let the analogy stand.

I’m writing about an older Christian woman on the cusp or retiring, working in a tail that wags the dog environment. A new younger, handsome, man is employed, the age of her youngest son. From a converstation she determines that he is seeking the Lord. He keeps asking questions. She discovers he had a disagreement with his parents, left home while still in college, lived with a middle aged woman until it became argumentive. But she sees his heart that he was accussed by his father of wild living so if you’ve got the name, play the game. She witnesses to him, but he misunderstands and accuses her of romantic feelings. The problem. She asks herself if he is right because he exudes sexuality. All the women in the office are mesmerizided by him and he is a big flirt and hugs all the women in the office. Being a married Christian woman, she would never commit adultry. She prays for him to accept Christ and does enjoy his attention. Does she back off the witness? Now what happens?

No NaNo for me. 🙂 I’m trying to get my brain back in line after being sick, but I’m starting to feel the juices flowing again. I’ve got two started – a historical set in 1885 Wyoming about a deaf girl and a sheriff – but she doesn’t want anyone to know she’s deaf. I’m researching stage coach lines and train routes, and reading the diary of a woman from England who travels west, and her experiences as a “lady” in the wild west! The other is a contemporary, book 2 to my completed book 1 set in South Carolina.

I’m all in for NaNo this year. Third attempt but first one I’ve really been prepared for. Writing from an outline that I knocked out in a writing workshop in October. 19,881 words so far. I’m determined to hit 50k before Thanksgiving, but I’ll keep writing until the 30th to see how much I can do.
My story is about a young woman, a pastor’s daughter, who must find the strength to become her own woman, finding her own faith, her independence and ultimately, love.

I don’t really consider myself a writer, but I am participating in NaBloPoMo. So far, I’ve been able to keep up and be about two days ahead with posts, so that’s good. I have to figure out what I’m writing about for the next two weeks though!
