Fun Friday–What’re You Doing This Weekend?

Friday, April 1, 2011

So, I couldn’t think of anything “fun” to share today. Instead, I thought we could talk about what’s on tap for the weekend that we’re looking forward to.

Tonight, I’m getting together with girlfriends to go see the new Jane Eyre movie, with dinner at Cheeseburger Charley’s beforehand.

And then I get to work all weekend—as usual. But at least I have girls’ night out tonight to look forward to.

What fun things do you have planned for this weekend?

    My taxes. So NOT fun!

Then hopefully some writing. If I can tear myself away from my research books long enough to open the file. I had no idea the study of cultivating cotton in the 1850’s would be so engrossing. I’ve been shocked at the strong recommendations for crop rotation.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how one knows if one has set her historical novel in the correct era—because we get engrossed in research that others would find absolutely, gobsmackingly boring. 😉

The same thing happened to me when I was researching steamship travel from the US to Britain in 1850/1851, and train travel in England at the same time. In six hours of “writing” time that night, I got about 500 words written. But I knew a ton more about travel during that era than I did before! (And that was just for sample chapters!)

I am learning all about the different seed types, how they “improved” said seed types, the proper methods of making manure that’s good for cotton, what type of manure should be used in what land and which cotton will grow best in what land. I can’t wait to get to the chapter on gins and screw presses!

I’ve written very little in the last week. But I’m absorbing the culture of the time, which will pay off.

Hope you’ll give us your thoughts on JA, and as it stands against the former versions.

Me? No clue what I’m doing. I’d love to have a work day tomorrow, but that all depends on whether I’ll have the house to myself long enough. Right now I’m looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. Lots of books I’d like to read.

And Netflix is supposed to be streaming Alex O’Loughlin’s shortlived series Three Rivers starting today. I could get sucked into that vortex and not emerge until Monday morning. 🙂

I’m going to my parents house tomorrow. Why? Because I’m telling my stepdad, in person, that my apartment complex has been condemned by the city, and we were given 30 days notice to vacate on Tuesday. Luckily, I’d found out about the 30 days notice last Thursday, and have been apartment shopping. I’ve put applications in at two places, and would appreciate prayers from anyone.

The only two things I have planned are church on Sunday and a viewing of Tangled with my sweet baby girl just as soon as the postman drops it on our doorstep. Other than that… I feel M&Ms in my future. I am only allowed to have them on weekends and, believe me, I look forward to that ALL WEEK LONG.

Tonight, hubby and I are paying a visit to his parent’s house for dinner. Tomorrow, it’s a day of shopping (and hopefully, breakfast at some yummy place) for me and my aunt. And Sunday, we’re trying a new church. Hopefully, I’ll find some free time in there to read! 🙂

Hopng it doesn’t rain. I started forking my garden today and plan to work three or four hours Saturday. Got to get it ready so when I get new plants I can quickly put them in the ground. Just the two hours I did today gave me a surge of energy. It was a delight to find that it is not as neglected as I thought. A lot of the herbs didn’t survive the hard winter, so I’ll have to replant. That’s a good opportinuty to change things around anyway.
If any body is into growing herbs, the Nashville Herb Society is having its annual herb sale at the State Fair Grounds on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. I joined last year and this year I will get to work in the sale. April 15th is supposed to be the last day there is danger of frost.
I love gardening. It is a good time for me to do some plotting of my writing. Multi tasking no less.

I so want to see the new Jane Eyre. I’m taking my best friend out for her birthday and that’s what we wanted to see, but it’s not playing the Kansas City area yet. So we’ll be seeing I Am Number Four instead. Heard it’s good.

ok the gardening didn’t happen, have read a bit but have a book I am not enjoying. I have to read it to judge it I think its aimed at teens and a fantasy type book but alot is in mathematical codes at times. there are confusing parts which will then be explained cos the main characters are also confused but its confusing at times and I am wanting it to move faster. I honestly think there is to much background story happening which really is detracting from the actual story. I gave up on it for a bit and have started a review book which Im enjoying but not again not the book I really want to read today if that makes sense. For some reason Im feeling sick again today which doesn’t help much and the fact its not very warm. I do have a book on the computer Im reading at night which is really fast moving (A Barbour book and I haven’t found to many of them I dont like)
Think I will watch stargate universe tonight.
Oh just working out what states I have read (19 so far) and how many I have a book for or on order (10) which leaves 21 still to find. states like Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey along with some others I am not sure I will find a book.
Now Texas I have about 6 ready to read, Colorado, Montana and Ohio plenty even Arizona! But some of the others Im struggling bad.
now Im of to have a bath and a night of sci fi!

I’m going to a local bonsai center tomorrow, where they’re going to help me re-pot my bonsai! Very excited about that.

We also have a church barbecue lunch Sunday and I have to make coleslaw for it. Fun fun 😀

Kaye, I bought the soundtrack although I haven’t seen the movie yet. I was so disappointed when I learned the “premiere date” was so limited and that I had to wait another month for it to show up locally. I’ll be seeing Jane Eyre (and Michael ‘catch me if I swoon’ Fassbender) next week.

Hope you have a great time with your friends and okay, I’m a bit jealous but I will be seeing next week!
    This weekend:
EDITING/Polishing my MS before submitting ASAP.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

Well, it looks like we’ll be digging out of the snow this weekend. It’s been snowing since last night and will continue perhaps until Sunday. So I’m just staying tucked in the house catching up on some reading. I did watch the A &E Jane Eyre the other night though and loved it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the new movie!
