Friday Fellowship–Two Urgent Prayer Requests

Friday, January 7, 2011

This is quite a divergence from what I would normally post on Fridays, but this is too important.

First, my cousin Noelle is having ankle surgery at 10 a.m. CST. Her fibula is broken in two places and they’re plating that bone, and the little tip at the bottom of the tibia is fractured, so they’ll be putting screws in there to stabilize it. Please pray for her surgeons and nurses, and for her—that she’ll have little pain; no bad reactions to the anesthesia, nerve block, or pain meds; and that she will have no complications or infections after surgery.

Second, and even more dire, is for the Phillips family. Many of you already follow Krista on Twitter, Facebook, and her blogs. Krista’s baby, Annabelle, was born with a heart defect and has been in the hospital since she was born last July. There have been many complications and setbacks along the way, but now the Phillipses are having to make decisions they’d hoped they wouldn’t have to face. I won’t try to explain it, but rather direct you to Krista’s blog to read about it there.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3–5)

The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry and will save them.

(Psalm 145:18–19)

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
The sun will not smite you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The LORD will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.

(Psalm 121)

And the one song that transports me to the foot of the Throne every time:

    I read Krista’s blog last night and my heart sank. I know this was not news they wanted to hear. But God is big.

    And your cousin’s surgery sounds very similar to yours! I will definitley be praying for her.

    Prayers going up – – thanks for letting us know about these situations. ~ Psalm 121 is very special to me – – that was one of my Daddy’s favorite verses and we had that printed on the little “program” we had at his Funeral….

    Thanks for sharing the video, Kaye. BTC always lifts me up.

    My heart is breaking for Krista and her husband. Praying now, and will keep baby Annabelle in my thoughts and prayers throughout the day. Krista’s right – we have a big God. And what is it with you people and your ankles? Praying for your cousin. Sounds all too familiar, doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing your HEART today.

    Just heard that my cousin didn’t get out of surgery until about 1:30 this afternoon and was in a lot of pain when she came out from anesthesia. Then, when they gave her morphine, she was feeling sick and loopy. So she’s still at the hospital and may have to stay overnight.

    Noelle is home, watching the LSU football game. They couldn’t do the nerve block for her that they did for me, and she ended up having a bad reaction to the anesthesia and pain killers they gave her after surgery. But she’s feeling better now.

    Now, on to the healing!
