I enjoyed the book. However, I couldn’t read the Red Queen. I couldn’t get passed the culture clash in her beginning age (12ish), being forced to marry and have a baby, nor that the second book took place before the first.
I’m in the middle of TWQ and I hate to say that I’m getting bored with it. Philippa Gregory hasn’t done her usual good job of making me care about the characters.
The White Queen was my first experience with Philippa Gregory, so I have nothing to compare it with. I listened to the book, maybe the reader made it more enjoyable, not sure.
Hmmm . . . I’m listening to it, too, and I think that may be part of the reason why I’m bored with it—there are a lot of sections of “history, for history’s sake” (info dumps) that I’d most likely skim over if I were reading the book or ebook. Compared to the other books of hers I’ve read (also on audio, The Boleyn Inheritance–a favorite–and The Other Boleyn Girl), it seems like she sacrifices a lot in the way of character development for inclusion of historical events.
