What Should I Watch?
After a business call this afternoon, I plan to spend the rest of the weekend resting my brain in front of the TV (well, Netflix, actually). There are so many TV shows and movies that are available to watch instantly online (whether on Netflix, Comcast’s On Demand online service, or Hulu) that I’m not sure where to start.
I’m all caught up with Bones (eagerly awaiting the series premiere of that this fall!), have completed Buffy and Angel, and really don’t want to watch all of the British costume dramas I have saved in my Netflix queue (trying to clear my mind of all of that kind of stuff so I won’t think about everything I know is wrong with RQ, which I’m afraid my editor is going to absolutely hate anyway). There aren’t a lot of newer movies that are available to watch instantly, and I’m pretty much sick of my DVD collection.
So throw me some suggestions.

I recommend watching the tv show Chuck! It is absolutely hilarious!!

Unfortunately, Chuck isn’t available to watch online, because it was the one I was really thinking about watching this weekend.

Kaye, if you are interested in watching something else Zachary Levi is in that has a slight Chuck flavor, check out his movie Shades of Ray. It’s available to Watch Instantly on Netflix. It’s in Indi film about a half-Pakistani, half-white man caught between the two cultures, with his parents on the verge of a break up and his white girlfriend hesitating to accept his marriage proposal. Oh, and the Pakistani dad won’t give up the dream of his only son marrying a nice Pakistani girl–something he didn’t do himself. It’s comedy/drama, and I’d rate it as PG-13.

By that “Indy” I meant an independent film. Not sure it was ever released in theaters. A shame that.

No offense to Zach, but really, my only reason (now, show unseen) for wanting to watch Chuck is Adam Baldwin.

Is The State: The Complete Series still on instant play?

It is, but in reading the description, it doesn’t really look like my kind of show.

I second Chuck. Or White Collar. Although I should warn you… That show will inspire at LEAST two male heroes for you… 🙂

::sigh:: Neither are available to watch online.

I just checked NBC’s website, and it looks like there are still some full Chuck episodes available to watch online for this 3rd season, but that doesn’t help with the first 2!

Right–and I like watching shows from the beginning so I know what’s going on.

Definitely start Chuck from Season 1. I’m working my way through Season 3 now that NBC finally has them posted in order. Love this show. Zac is my Neil now. Hands down. Sorry, Josh G.

“Wretched” on FamilyNet is the best! If you can’t get that, the Princess Bride. Have fun stormin’ the castle! :0)

Thanks, sis, I’ll have to check that out!

I agree with the Chuck suggestion — especially because of Adam Baldwin playing Casey!
Lately, I’ve watched “In Plain Sight” on hulu about the witness protection program. After getting a taste of the sarcastic humor and interesting storylines, I’m planning to catch more. The writers give the main character some insightful voice over comments when she muses at the end of each episode. Excellent writing!

Adam Baldwin is the main reason I want to watch Chuck. I’ll get the DVDs eventually, but even if I sent back the discs I have today, I wouldn’t get the first disc of Chuck until Monday, when it’s time to get back on a regular work schedule.

Chuck is a fun show, and so is White Collar, but my vote is for Burn Notice!
(Fun fact: Matt Bomer plays both Bryce Larkin from Chuck and Neal Caffrey from White Collar.)

I’ve tried watching Burn Notice before, and it didn’t draw me in. (Also not available to watch online :-()

He sure does. And plays them well. 🙂 But Zac Levi has won my fangirl heart. He’s the perfect combo of leading man/nerd.

Yes. Yes he does. Play them both well. 🙂

I have been watching King of Queens, ER, and Friends seasons on Netflix lately. It’s a bummer that you can’t find a lot of older shows on Netflix; I wish they would put Judging Amy on DVD; I used to love that show. Oh, have you ever seen the series Road to Avonlea? I also watched that; it’s great if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan.

The only sitcom I watch is The Big Bang Theory, and I’m all caught up with that. ER I watched when it was on. (Used Goran Visnjic as the template for one of the heroes in my second completed manuscript, except I made him Ukrainian instead of Croatian.)
Although I enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables movies, I never got into Road to Avonlea. Probably because Anne wasn’t in it.

Someone on Facebook just let me know that the current season of Top Chef is online. Which is good—that was one of my regular shows I’d had to forgo this summer. So that should fill a few hours this weekend.

My friend Ruth knows how to make sure I’ll watch something immediately. She posted this on my FB wall earlier today:
“Oded Fehr guest-starred in the 4th episode of Covert Affairs (it’s available On Demand). It was pretty good IMO.”
Guess what I’m watching RIGHT NOW!

Hope you enjoyed the ep. 🙂 I wasn’t sure about that show after the premiere, but it is growing on me, showing steady improvement week by week.

Speaking of what to watch, I just got this notification from PBS’s Masterpiece series:
“This fall, Sherlock Holmes stalks again in a thrilling contemporary version of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (The Last Enemy) and Martin Freeman (The Office, UK) — just part of the stellar Masterpiece Mystery! season yet to come in 2010.”

I’ve been hunting down previews for Sherlock online…it looks GREAT! Looking forward to it…thankfully it won’t be *too* much longer.

Lori knows how much I adore all things Chuck-related…and I know how much you love Adam Baldwin. It pains me to say it but honestly I will be kind of surprised if you end up getting into Chuck even with Adam’s character. Will be very curious to get your take (and to see if I’m wrong, LOL!). 😉
I ADORE White Collar, too bad season one isn’t available to watch online. Maybe after the S1 DVDs have been out a while they will make that available.

And I need to catch you up on where I’m at in S3.

Hulu.com is a great way to find tv series. I don’t have cable so this is the only way I have access to some of my fave series: White Collar; Justified unfortunately I missed the first half of the season); Royal Pains. (The downside — sometimes the episodes are on for a limited time before they ‘expire.’)
I’ve also found series on hulu that I missed their first time around: Firefly (had to wait for the first episodes to loop back around. They only have a few available at a time.); Standoff; The Beast (Patrick Swayze’s last series — just found it on hulu. Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet.)
I checked to see if Chuck is on hulu.com. There are several episodes available, but quite a few expire in one day.
There are also tons of movies available on hulu.com.
One of the things I especially like about hulu.com is that you can ‘subscribe’ to shows and movies. I kept forgetting which shows I wanted to watch. My son told me about subscribing. You can log in and see a list of shows/movies you want to watch. And you can also receive an email when a new episode is available.
I also love Drop Dead Diva (about a model who dies and comes back as a not-skinny attorney). I watch it through the Lifetime website.
I’m a tv, move, and book junkie. 😀
