Fun Friday–Playlist First-Line Poem
I’m the guest blogger on The Writer’s Alley today. Be sure to check it out!

This is a meme I made up last year.
Rules: Using your iPod, your MP3 player, your iTunes, your Windows Media Player, (set on Shuffle/Random) or Pandora.com or AccuRadio.com, create a “free-form poem” by writing down the first line of a song, then skipping to the next song. Try at least 20 and see what you come up with. (When you run out of “skips” on Pandora, just refresh the page.)

Somewhere, just across the Jordan River
Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven.
Maybe it’s because the kiss you gave me
Alone in the darkness—
I see trees of green, red roses, too.
When suddenly you sight someone for whom you yearn,
When the sun is high in the afternoon sky,
I walk along the city streets you used to walk along.
It was just one of those things—
Heart and soul, I fell in love with you.
I’m so afraid of night, ’cause I’m too romantic.
I’m in the mood for love,
The moment I wake up, before you put on your makeup,
I believe I’ve attempted every move that I know—
Do nothin’ ’til you hear from me.
Do you hear that playing?
I was with you wandering through memory lane.
When I fall in love, it will be forever.
Heaven’s getting ready for an end-it-all celebration—
He’s my guy.

Now it’s your turn. Share your poem here or post it to your blog and come back to post the link.

What a FABULOUS idea to introduce poetry to my 9th grade English students! Do you mind?

This was a lot of fun–the poem is apparently something about dreaming in the night or something. 😉
Dancing bears, painted wings,
When I worked at the mill weaving at the loom.
I know there’s someone somewhere,
There’s a man in uniform–what brings you to this place?
A time for us, someday there’ll be.
How long must this go on?
Time to say goodbye.
It all began the day I found
Make of our hands one hand.
When I fall in love, it will be forever.
In a while, in a word every moment now returns,
God on high, hear my prayer.
We’ve just been introduced, I do not know you well
Here comes the bride is a lovely little ditty.
Tonight, old man, you did it, you did it, you did it!
Weep you no more sad fountains, why need you flow so fast?
There was a time when men were kind, when their voices were soft and their words inviting.
When the race still lies before me, and the wind is blowing strong,
Come to me, Cosette, the night is fading.
Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour,
Only you, you’re the only thing I’ll see forever.
Jesus was my master, I had crowned him King,
On the sea of Galilee the lighting is flashing.
Madame Gaston, can’t you just see it?
I can’t recall a night so clear
Bed! Bed! I couldn’t go to bed!
You’ve been dreaming just one dream nearly all your life,
Let me be your wings, let me be your only love,
I have often walked down this street before.
Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you see me?
Why should we waste a night like this?
Climb ev’ry mountain, search high and low,
O love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee!
Don’t you fret, Monsieur Marius, I don’t feel any pain.
Gosh, it disturbs me to see you, Gaston, looking so down in the dumps.
If dreams came true, I might have been a better man,
Turning back the hands of time.
Heart, don’t fail me now, courage, don’t desert me!
There’s a place for us, somewhere a place for us…
How could you leave? Leave without a word?
Think of me, think of me fondly when we’ve said goodbye.
What in all of heaven could have prompted her to go?
I hope that we’ll be friends, though I don’t know you well.
Somebody’s down to their last dime.
Dancing on a cloud, I’m dancing on a cloud,
What can I do? I feel his love,
Midnight, not a sound from the pavement.
Ten minutes ago I saw you, I looked up when you came through the door.
Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match!
How can I hope to make you understand why I do what I do?
Baby Mine, don’t you cry,
No more talk of darkness, forget these wide-eyed fears,
Wandering child, so lost, so hopeless,
Peace, peace, peace on earth and good will toward all.
There’s something sweet and almost kind,
A heart full of love, a heart full of song.
Why should I feel discouraged?
Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you,
You were once my one companion.

Cool idea! I’ll play (even though I’m terribly late)
I’m not very good at just paying attention
Say it to my face
I caught a chill and it’s still frozen on my skin
Today is gonna be the day
Wait right here
If we were children I would bake you a mud pie
It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song
She can account for all of the men in her past
I can’t believe how far I’ve come
You look surprised
Grab all you can
Today he told her that he loved her
I got sent home from school today with a shiner on my eye
It was no accident me finding you
Picture perfect memories
Your words to me just a whisper
I whisper in your ear
Open up the book you beat me with again
The broken clock is a comfort
Ooh, baby, baby
Time, it goes so fast
Why does the color of my coffee match your eyes?
They said, “Change your clothes.”
There’s a tremor on this highway
I want to live where soul meets body.
Even through the darkest phase
You come out in night
Somewhere over the rainbow
Where the day is long and the night is yours alone
