Please Tell Me This Was a Joke!
Saw this on Dear Prudence (from Slate Magazine) today:
Dear Prudence,
My ex-girlfriend’s mom can’t stop writing on my Facebook wall: giving me advice, telling me she cares about me, and debating my politics. I am not in touch with my ex. What should I do?
—So Over ThisDear So Over,
Situations like yours are why “defriending” was invented. Don’t worry about hurting her feelings, just drop Mom.
—Prudie
Is this what the younger generation has really come down to? That he’d have to send a message (because you know he didn’t “write a letter”) to an advice columnist to find out what to do to keep someone from posting on his FaceBook page? Is his brain so atrophied that he couldn’t come up with the idea of unfriending this woman AS SOON AS HE BROKE UP WITH HER DAUGHTER?
Thoughts?

Something tells me that’s just there for comedic effect.
Then again, having worked in tech support, I can say sometimes people don’t know the most simple things. Like a computer needs to be plugged in to work.

It’d be even more interesting to know if the writer broke up with the daughter or vice-versa. If the daughter dumped him, what the heck is her mother thinking? In fact, I’m more interested in why the ex-girlfriend’s mother thinks it’s still okay to be talking to this guy…

Hahaha wow! I can’t believe it…my mom doesn’t even know how to use Facebook so I guess I don’t have to worry about my mom embarassing me like that 😛

You know… there are so many people a few french fries short of a happy meal in this world… I wouldn’t be surprised by almost ANYTHING.

I know several people who like to be on Facebook, but don’t know much about using it. Do they really post jokes on that site?

Situations like this make me proud that I am in the 20’s and have yet to join Facebook etc. I wonder if Mom ever knows that they have broken up?

Since I don’t yet have a facebook, I could understand not understanding how it works. Then again, just last week, my neice and her friend were talking about how another friend had added something to her page. My son asked how her friend had accessed her page to make changes, and she said she had given out her password. Since I am still apparently living in the dark ages, my other son has offered to set me up a page. That leades me to so wonder if the girlfriend set up his facebook page for him and he doesn’t know the first thing about how to revise his own page???

Some people have a lot of guilt about unfriending people on Facebook. The guy may have just needed reassurance that it’s okay to do so!

Yeah . . . kind of gives me an idea of why the girlfriend broke up with him!

Haha, that’s funny. It could be a joke since a lot of the people who write in to advice columns seem to have easy to solve problems (or obvious solutions that may not exactly be easy) in the first place.

You really just never know. 🙂 Some people really are that clueless…sadly so.

I think he knew what to do but he wanted someone else telling him so he wouldn’t feel bad about it. I don’t know why that lady was talking to him though but I once had a friend that was still close to her exes mom and she even got birthday presents from her.

Honestly . . . Even if he felt weird about “unfriending,” he could have at least BLOCKED her!

Why was he Mom’s friend in the first place? We’re not talking ex-spouse here, we’re talking ex-girlfriend. Unh, unh. Bad practice to get too close to the significant others of children before wedding bells begin to toll. Can be quite messy, as this person has learned.

This is why I do not do Facebook. Life is more complicated than “friend” or “unfriend.”

Ha. Reason why I have yet to get a Facebook. 😉
