Random Discussion Question: What’s for Breakfast?

Monday, January 25, 2010

As you know, deadline on Love Remains is looming—and I have a freelance editing job I’m trying to wrap up, plus edits on Ransome’s Crossing I have to get in by Tuesday, as well as some marketing copy to write for Love Remains to do by tomorrow. Needless to say, you’re not going to be getting a one-thousand-word blog post from me every day. But since I know people are still trying to get their entries in for the “Make A Case for Love” contest, this week, we’ll have a series of discussion questions that will hopefully be fun, easy ways to get those entries in!

Today’s Random Discussion Question: What’s for Breakfast?

  • What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
  • What’s your favorite restaurant at which to eat breakfast? What’s your favorite thing to order there?
  • Do you prefer sweet or savory breakfast foods?
  • Coffee, tea, milk, juice, or soda?
  • Bacon or sausage? Grits or potatoes? Toast or biscuits?
  • If you like biscuits, do you prefer them with a fruit jelly/jam, honey, or gravy (what kind of gravy)?
  • Is breakfast the most important meal of the day?

Let’s talk about breakfast!

Coffee for breakfast and once I’m awake I’ll eat a bowl of cold cereal. The coffee, for me, is essential everything else is peanuts. 🙂

Just for fun, I posted my redneck version of a storyboard since I said I might.

Eggs and grits. Cheap and filling, and I’ve timed them so they cook while I get dressed.

    Jelly…on biscuits?
I don’t think Christians should write about disturbing things like that. Remember, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is RIGHT…” and biscuits with anything but gravy is not right.
I hope you don’t put things like that in your books! 🙂

Glad to know I’m not the only one too busy to blog lengthy sessions each day. My work schedule will be increasing starting tomorrow, so I don’t know how often I’ll be able to get on. Yours is the first blog I participated in, and I have learned a lot about blogging. In fact, I realized over the weekend when I was looking for something to respond to that one post you had us respond to (scavenger hunt) had links to the interviews that held the answers. Imagine my surprise when I saw that you also wanted to share a meal with Louisa May Alcott. I was so pleased a few years ago (and surprised) when our library got in some of her non-fiction work. I love the Transcendentalists and loved introducing them to my students when I taught English III (American Lit.).

I guess today’s question about breakfast prompted my thoughts about the other blog question. On to today’s questions regarding “What’s for Breakfast?”

What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Eggs, pancakes, and either ribbon cane or boysenberry syrup from IHOP.
Do you prefer sweet or savory breakfast foods? both

Coffee, tea, milk, juice, or soda? MILK, for sure!

Bacon, Grits, and biscuits or pancakes. If I have the grits, the biscuits would be served with jelly. If not, with syrup or sausage gravy.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the only one that I can eat any time of day! I Love Breakfast!

By the way, I notice that some poeple have signature pictures with their posts. How would I add that to my profile?

Okay, thanks 🙂 I look forward to meeting you soon. I have looked in our Wal-Mart for your books. I didn’t order them through the conference because I wanted to read them before March. I think I read somewhere that Barnes&Nobles don’t carry your books??? Does Books-A-Million?

Books-a-Million, Borders, and LifeWay are the main retailers that almost always have my books. But any bookstore can order them for you. Just go to the information desk at Barnes & Noble and ask them to order them for you. They should be able to get them in the store within a week. And, maybe if more people did that, B&N would be more likely to go ahead and stock my books!

cold cereal has been my breakfast recently. I do love to go to Cracker Barrel and get their biscuits with jelly (maybe it is because I am from the North that gravy has never appealed to me). My mother who spent her summer growing up down in Georgia loves grits, but I can’t eat grits or oatmeal – it’s a texture thing. If I had my choice I would love a donut from a good bakery for breakfast, but can’t do that too often.

Usually I just have poptarts for breakfast. Sometimes I’ll have a piece of toast though. When I have an actual breakfast I generally go for hash browns and biscuits with gravy. I eat any leftover biscuits with butter and jelly though! 🙂

I’m not much of a breakfast person. I’ll have coffee or hot tea 3-4 mornings a week. A bowl of cereal, oatmeal or a bagel maybe twice a week.

However on the weekends, I am a great fan of brunch. Pancakes, danish, waffles or anything high carb are much appreciated. 🙂

Turnovers, I think, apple turnovers. And chocolate chip muffins.

    And bacon.

    And Crispix.

    And . . . yeah.

My favorite thing to have on biscuits is lemon curd. Mmm.

Breakfast – not a meal I think a lot about, usually. At home, it will be toast, cereal, or instant oatmeal. Sometimes I’ll get some cheese danish – YUM.

When we go out, I have plenty of time to work up an appetite. Krispy Kreme has the most awesome chocolate-iced-custard-filled donuts. At IHOP they have a great little breakfast called 2 X 2 X 2 – two eggs, two pieces of meat (I choose bacon), and two pancakes. Love that, but miss the hash brown casserole I can get at Cracker Barrel. Best breakfast buffet I ever had was at Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom, The Crystal Palace. They had the best hash browns and scrambled eggs I ever put in my mouth.

Biscuits w/ gravy is OK, but I like butter and jelly or honey, and LOVE apple butter!

Can not STAND grits except in a casserole where they’re masked by cheese . . .

Beverage? COFFEE . . . LEAD ME TO THE COFFEE!!

    Favorite thing: turkey bacon

Favorite restaurant: an NY metro diner; nothing like it!

Mix of savory and sweet but leaning more savory I think (trying to stay away from sugar; my favorite used to be French toast)

    Water

Bacon. That’s all. Okay… maybe a biscuit, if homemade.

    Just the biscuit.

Yes, definitely the most important. Need that energy. Downside is never hungry until after I eat breakfast.

Since we started doing South Beach a couple years ago, I usually cook eggs for breakfast. Today’s breakfast was brought to us by CHOLESTEROL: scrambled eggs with cheese, thick sliced bacon, and Grands biscuits.

First off I gotta say good luck with your writing/editing! Sounds fun 😛

As for breakfast I admit I skip it most of the time. However I do like breakfast food I just don’t like to eat as soon as I get up and by the time I feel like eating it’s lunch time.

My very favorite breakfast food is french toast made by me, nobody else. I hate soggy french toast that tastes like raw eggs.

I rarely eat breakfast at a restaurant but if I do I order a Cinnamon Melt from McDonald’s.

    I gotta have sweets.

I don’t drink white milk by itself (it’s nasty) but if I have something really sweet like a cinnamon melt or donut I drink milk, does that make sense?

Since I usually don’t eat breakfast I usually drink pop for breakfast preferably Mtn Dew, which I also drink before I hit the hay at night.

I like bacon but only if it has crispy edges, I can’t eat burnt or soft bacon. I HATE sausage.

I like biscuits but only with strawberry jam, no gravy or honey (yuck.)

Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day for me! I prefer a heavy lunch LOL!

I definitely think Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. My favorite thing to eat is Pamela’s Products pancakes, because they are gluten free, with pecans and blueberries and pure maple syrup. I also drink Black tea or any tea for that matter, and as an after snack I get a banana. My favorite breakfast places to go are usually ones that have great Belgian waffles. I do like scrambled eggs and cheese grits though.

Coffee isn’t even a question. MUST have. 🙂

There are days when I am craving sweet…and days when I could just gobble up bacon. Love Cracker Barrel ~ but for biscuits, there is nothing that can clog your arteries faster than a hot buttered Hardees biscuit.

And now I want one. Sigh

Fav thing for breakfast: French Toast

Fav restaurant and thing to order: Oh, ugh! Cracker Barrel or Perkins… and french toast and pancakes respectively

But a good Hardee’s sausage biscuit is just times a MUST

Sweet or savory? Depends on my mood…

Coffee, tea, milk, juice, or soda? Milk or juice (only if it’s pulp free!)

Bacon or sausage? Grits or potatoes? Toast or biscuits?

Bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuits (with Jelly!)

Is breakfast the most important meal of the day? They are all important to this prego woman!

I try to eat a healthy breakfast. It’s usually bran cereal (Raisin Nut Bran currently) with roasted almonds, extra raisins and dried apricots, with apple cider on the side. Maybe hot tea. Sometimes instead of the dry cereal I’ll have Scottish oatmeal with cinnamon and honey, and the dried fruit. On the weekend my husband cooks a mean omelet. I have a pancake once or twice a year, with Oregon huckleberries. Bacon is for BLTs!

Wow–I spend all day working and come back to a ton of comments! Thanks, y’all, for giving me a fun end to my (very long) day.

    Here’s mine:
Breakfast, to me, is definitely the most important meal of the day. If I don’t eat breakfast, I feel hungry all day long. And if I don’t eat protein for breakfast, I’m hungry again within a couple of hours.

At home, during the week, I’ll usually have sausage and/or bacon and/or eggs for breakfast. If I do a high-protein breakfast, I can usually get by with just eating two meals during the day.

Every other Saturday, when I’m at Panera for the MTCW meetings, I LOVE to get their spinach-artichoke “souffle”—basically scrambled eggs with spinach & artichoke hearts & cheese wrapped in puff-pastry and baked. So unhealthy. But, oh, so good!

    * What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? Pop Tarts
    * What’s your favorite restaurant at which to eat breakfast? What’s your favorite thing to order there? Depends on my mood. Usually I love Denny’s and their pancakes, but we don’t have one, so I have to go eat there when we visit our relatives.
    * Do you prefer sweet or savory breakfast foods? Savory.
    * Coffee, tea, milk, juice, or soda? Milk
    * Bacon or sausage? Grits or potatoes? Toast or biscuits? Bacon
    * If you like biscuits, do you prefer them with a fruit jelly/jam, honey, or gravy (what kind of gravy)?
    * Is breakfast the most important meal of the day? Yes! I cannot concentrate unless I have food in me in the mornings. I learned that a few times in College when I was running late and had to skip breakfast to get to school on time.
