I’d done this before so knew when I woke early in the morning with some mild contractions that it was time. Four weeks before I’d gone to the hospital to be told “false labor.” Nothing false that May in 19?? My sisters took the 2 yr old and my mother drove me to the hospital. Her dad, a career Army officer, was in South Korea for a year and had just left about 6 weeks earlier. He would not see her before she was 6 months old. This was before sonograms so it was a wonderful surprise when I saw the mop of fine dark hair atop a face with huge blue eyes and a tiny bow mouth. Happy birthday, baby.
