Finding your VOICE–To Be Continued…

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

Wouldn’t you know it? I start a series on finding our internal Author’s Voice and then suddenly I’m overwhelmed by all these external voices vying for my attention!

I’ve started a new project, Menu for Romance, the follow-up novel to Happy Endings Inc. Then, yesterday, I ran across a three-year-old story idea that I couldn’t even remember writing the synopsis of and now I’m thinking I may give that one a try, as well. I guess it’s time for me to reread my DESTINATION, DETERMINATION, DELIBERATION post again and make sure that I’m prioritizing my personal time so that I can get my writing done and still have time for critiques, blogging, and… oh, yeah, having a life.

I have been reading up on the subject of VOICE and hope to be able to get back on track with daily posts today or tomorrow.

That story idea is killer! I can’t wait to read it. It’s been running through my mind all day.

Balance and goals are so hard to manage, aren’t they? My tendency is to put my head down and barrel toward a goal to the detriment of all else in my life than achieve moderation and balance and arrive at my goal a little later, but with my life in tact when I do.

On the subject of voice…do you think it is easier to identify another person’s voice than it is to identify your own? I can read Dick Francis, or Anne Perry or Elizabeth Peters and identify the voice without looking at the author. But for my own…it feels a little like asking yourself if you have an accent. It doesn’t seem like it to the speaker, but everyone else can hear it if you pahk your cah on the Havahd Yahd.
