Fun Friday–The Great Debate

I don’t usually stop on VH1 when I’m flipping through the channels—unless an episode of I Love the ’80s happens to be on. However, over the last few days, there’s been a new show that’s made me stop on the channel usually known for the dregs of “reality” TV. They now have a new show on called The Great Debate where their D-list celebrities take one side of an issue about something in entertainment (“Does Disco Suck?”; “Wildest Toy Craze: Cabbage Patch vs. Tickle-Me-Elmo”; “Best Old Lady Commercial: Where’s the Beef vs. I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up”). It’s absolutely inane but absolutely fun. So I thought for Fun Friday, we could do our own “Great Debate” episode here. Choose your side on any or all of them and go to town!

Okay Paula and Rachel both get on my last nerve. Best disaster film of ’96 is Independence Day b/c um it’s sci fi, has the second best aliens ever (first place is Alien), is about saving the entire planet. Best pirate is Johnny Depp b/c he’s so over the top. You just cannot turn away. Iconic hair award goes to Farrah. I’m a child of the 70s. I can remember being in maybe 7th grade in the late 70’s and EVERYONE, even teachers, had a Farrah to some degree. Can’t speak to Mr. Darcy as I haven’t seen either (sorry Kaye).

Hmm. Maybe Rachel Ray.
Haven’t seen either…
Love Errol Flynn
I would say Farrah…my mom totally had that look when I was younger. 😉
Haven’t seen the other Darcy, so I’ll go with Colin.
BTW, I finshed MFR! It was soooo good. Loved the characters and the contentment theme was awesome! I’ll be writing a review soon.

Well let’s see….
Love Paula’s food but love Rachels personality….
Independence day by far, love Will Smith in that one…….
Depp is the best pirate of all time no doubt……
Farrah’s hair had more followings, but I will say I sported the Aniston for a few years……
David Rintoul definetly had my attention as Mr. Darcy just something a bit more mysterious about him…….

I have to say Farrah with a big gleaming smile!
Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy.
(Although Matthew McFayden won my favor as Mr. Darcy as well.)
Yo ho ho, there is no other pirate than Johnny Depp for me.
(Perhaps Depp could someday play Flynn in a movie based on his life. Flynn’s daughter wrote “The Baron of Mulholland” about her father’s interesting life.

Not all easy choices:
Rachel Ray – I love Paula’s food, but I don’t eat ‘southern’, although her strawberry cake is the best. Rachel’s foods are healthier. I love Paula’s family life though.
Twister – I enjoyed I.D., but Twister wins out.
Johnny Depp – So over the top and fun.
Farrah – Never cared for Jennifer.
David Rintoul – I thought he had a more believable arrogance to his character.

Celebrity chefs in general annoy me, but I guess I’ll go w/ Paula Deen because just typing Rachel Ray’s name makes my blood pressure spike. I have absolutely no opinion about Independence Day vs. Twister. As much as I love Johnny Depp as Captain Jack, I’ve got to go with Errol Flynn. 🙂 And I’ll go with Farrah because I think Jennifer is overrated. 😉 And duh to the last one…LOL!! Colin!!

Paula Deen. Love her down home wit. She seems she would be a fun person to know.
Independence Day. Just really loved that movie. Like the romance between Will Smith and Vivica Fox. And I tend to like Jeff Goldblum movies too, although not The Fly.
Gotta go with Errol Flynn. I’m an old movie kind of gal. Johnny Depp is just too new for me.
Draw. Because I’ve seen neither film.

Oops. I missed the hair question. Farrah. I remember whole classes of girls with that hair style. I’ve not seen the Jennifer thing copied quite as much, but then I’m not in hs/college classes.
More on Independence Day. They fly something that looks like the top of the World’s Fair Exhibit (Queens, NY). Gotta love it.
Questions are generational. I wonder whether the responses will be.

Oh, painful choices to make.
I can’t choose between Paula and Rachael. Love them both for soooo many reasons.
I loved Independence Day, but I’m from Oklahoma and know first hand that Twister wasn’t all that far fetched, so I’d have to pick Twister.
Johnny Depp for sure.
Farrah hair, although so many of my friends had Jennifer hair, or desperately wanted it.
And watching Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice cemented my love of Mr. Darcy forever. Although some of the subtle gestures of Matthew MacFayden were great for the character, too.

Paula vs. Rachael: Ugh! Kill me now. Despise both of them.
ID4 of course! One of those rare movies that makes you proud to be an American.
Johnny Depp and Farrah, no question.
Can’t answer about Mr. Darcy because I despise the first P&P and flat out refuse to watch the new one. I’m one of those people that can’t stand Jane Austen in any form.
