I just finished the book “Hidden Afection” by Delia Parr. I had read her first book, “Hearts Awakening” some years ago. Both books are delightful historical reads.

Finished Crucible of War by J.M. Hochstetler last week. I need the next one RIGHT NOW, but she hasn’t started writing it yet. Talk about a cliffhanger ending.

Started The Song of Scarabaeus by Sara Creasy yesterday. It’s SF, and she’s a major Firefly fan. Very good. Not hard sci-fi by any means, which is fine with me, but lots of to think about and the writing is beautiful.

Can’t remember exactly when I finished it, but I think it was last month: “People of the Book” by Kathi Macias. Excellent! Highly recommended. Also finished “The Constantine Codex” by Paul Maier. Excellent biblical archaeology thriller. Also highly recommended.

Currently reading: “Elisha’s Bones” by Don Hoesel. A decent biblical archaeology thriller.

Next: The sabbatical of fiction is over. Going back to non-fiction- “Embracing Obscurity” by Anonymous. Authors will be intrigued by the reason behind the anonymity (and, probably, curious, as I am, as to how this book got picked up by a publisher since it has a built in lack of “platform”):

“As pride creeps in, we are tempted to want more: more recognition, more admiration, more influence, more, more, more. Few have ever given thought to wanting less. That’s why we need Embracing Obscurity.

Putting the premise into immediate action, an established Christian author electing to remain anonymous writes about living and dying in simplicity, contending that true success, as modeled by Jesus, starts with humility, service, sacrifice, and surrender.”

I have my suspicions as to the identity of the author :0)

The last books I have read are At Every Turn by Anne Mateer (well-written, historical fiction set in 1916), With Every Letter by Sarah Sundin (fantastic WWII book; heroine is shy, grew up in a foreign country, doesn’t know how to make friends; hero hides behind perpetual smiles, jokes; they start an anonymous correspondence), Venetia by Georgette Heyer (usually like GH books, but not this one), Love’s Reckoning by Laura Frantz (love her books; writing style was excellent/riveting; could have done with a little more descriptive kissing :), and The Accidental Bride by Denise Hunter (fun western romance; marriage of convenience; good romantic tention without going over the line).

Currently reading Unending Devotion by Jody Hedlund. I’ve just started it so don’t know how I’ll like it.

In the middle of all of these I’ve been slowly working my way through the unabridged audio version of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, narrated by Juliet Stephenson. I’m half-way through.

Up next is A Bride Opens Shop in Eldorado, California by Keli Gwyn and a re-read of North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Currently reading The Reunion by Dan Walsh. Very good so far (25%)

Just finished The Reason, by first-time author William Sirls. Amazing!

Other good ones I’ve read in the last month include The Widow of Saunders Creek by Tracey Bateman and A Path Toward Love by Cara Putman. I’ve just bought the Ransome trilogy, so hopefully will be able to get to those soon.

This weekend I finished Soulless by Gail Carriger (Victorian-era steampunk adventure that reminded me of Torchwood!) and The Mirrored World by Debra Dean for a TLC Books blog tour (reviews of both to come!).

Currently I’m reading Muddy Boots and Silk Stockings by Julia Stoneham, about the Land Girls of Britain in World War II. And I plan on reading Love’s Reckoning this week by Laura Frantz for another tour.

I’m in the midst of reading the O’Malley series!! Great minds…;) I had to take a break after Rachel’s book to read some Miss Read (England, 1940’s, another new rerelease). My pile of TBR has stacked up Kristin Billerbeck (the scent of rain), Melody Carlson (River’s End), Mindy Starns Clark (Beauty to die for), Stephanie Grace Whitson (shadow on the quilt). So.

Hi Kaye, I hope you’re well. I’m reading ‘Excavation’ by James Rollins, hoping to get into some of my new indie author finds afterwards :).
