Book Reports!
And I just realized that I forgot to do this post in May, so we’ve got two months’ worth of books to catch up on!
If you’ve challenged yourself to—or even officially signed up for—a reading challenge in 2014, now’s as good a time as any to start reporting your successes. I recently read “How Sweet the Sound,” by Amy K. Sorrells. One of the best books that I have read in a long time.
Currently re-reading Debbie Viguie’s “Psalm 23 Mysteries” series. Can’t get enough of Cindy and Jeremiah.
As for my to-read: “This Side of Paradise,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I read Sarah E. Ladd’s new book The Headmistress of Rosemere. It is a Historical Romance with a 19th century setting in England. I loved the characters in this book.

Wow. I have a hard time remembering for a month, let alone 2, so here goes.
I listened to the Ray of Light, by Shelley Shepherd Gray (Book 2), Lynn Austin’s Fire by Night and A Light to My Path (Books 2 and 3 in Refiner’s Fire Series), The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln (great book–interesting take on the Reconstruction. The author had Lincoln survive Booth and then be impeached by the House. It was written and interesting.) and Dead Lawyers Tell No Tales, by Randy Singer–I love legal thrillers–Randy Singer never disappoints. Echoes of Mercy, by Kim Vogel Sawyer–a bit of a departure for her, set in a candy factory, but well worth the read. Loved it.
I have also read A Place in His Heart, by Rebecca DeMarino–This is debut novel and I couldn’t put it down. Absolutely loved the story of the 2 hearts that find each other through many trials.
Currently reading–Firefly Island, by Lisa Wingate–I have waited for this book for a while. It is a little slow, but I am enjoying it. Also, Unrivaled, by Siri Mitchell–coincidentally, also set in the candy making industry. Can’t wait to finish it.
Next up, Eventide, by Shelley Shepherd Gray–Book 3 in Days of Redemption, By Reason of Insanity, by Randy Singer.

What are you currently reading and/or listening to?
The Ranger (Highland Guard #3) by Monica McCarty—I want to like this book, and, based on the description and the fact that I’m trying to immerse myself in all things 14th century Scottish Highlands, I should love it. But I find myself doing more critiquing and less enjoying. I also find myself using the highlight and notes feature on my Kindle more with this book than any book before. Within a few hundred words, I’d already made a note of “Ugh. Really?” the first time the hero feels something “down below” from just looking at the heroine, whom he’s just met on a dark road . . . and then a few more times after that throughout the first few chapters. The other snarky comment I’ve noted a few times already is “Info-Dump much?” This author seems to be very proud of the amount of research she’s done and how well she knows the geography of the area in which the book is set and really wants to show off. Which results in my skimming, because they really don’t add anything to the story.
What’s the next book on your To Be Read stack/list?
The Chief (Highland Guard #1) by Monica McCarty—I know I’m reading these out of order, but this is the order in which they were available from the library.
The Forest Laird: A Tale of William Wallace (The Bravehearts Chronicles #1) by Jack Whyte—I checked this out before I went on vacation last week thinking I’d read it while there, but, alas, I didn’t really feel like doing much reading. So we’ll see if I actually get to this one before it’s due back to the library.

In the last two months I have read The Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan, The Deeds of the Disturber (Amelia Peabody #5) by Elizabeth Peters, Why Be a Baptist by H. Boyce Taylor, and Right Ho, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse. I am currently reading Folks, This Ain’t Normal: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World by Joel Salatin. Next up…that is a good question. I honestly have a huge list of books I want to read, I don’t know what I will choose next! Maybe something by Agatha Christie.
