Since the first Monday of this month was Labor Day here in the U.S., I didn’t post this then, but we can’t skip our monthly update! It’s time for your book report. Just finished reading When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin. Touching, sad, hopeful. A thoughtful, beautifully written novel.

Finished Reading
Since the last update in August, I’ve finished:
—Innocent Traitor: A Novel of Jane Grey by Alison Weir. Story: 4 stars. Audiobook: 4.5 stars. (Click through for review)
—Stand-In Groom, Menu for Romance, and A Case for Love by Yours Truly. I re-read (skimmed, mostly) to make notes on certain characters for a certain new story idea I’m working on currently.
Currently Reading
—When He Was Wicked (Bridgertons, #6) by Julia Quinn (I’ve just downloaded this to my Kindle, but haven’t actually started it yet)
—The Queen’s Fool (The Tudors #4) by Philippa Gregory (audiobook read by Bianca Amato). I thought this would be a good follow-up to the Weir book.

I will have to check out the Jane Grey book. I loved the movie Lady Jane.

Be warned that she doesn’t have quite as rosy of an opinion of Jane and Guildford’s relationship as the movie does.

I have read the entire Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber. I enjoyed the books. I also read Beth Weisman’s Daughter’s of the Promise series, which are set in Paradise, Pa. I also listened to the final “Paradise Valley” book, by W. Dale Cramer. This set in the 1920’s in Mexico and concerns an Amish community that has relocated to avoid compulsory schooling in Ohio. I love the entire series. I also listened to Emma, by Jane Austen. I enjoyed the book, although it did drag at times and found some of the characters to be insipid, at times. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. However, the reader was not at all enjoyable. I could hear her turning the pages and she repeated the text quite a bit. It nearly became a DNF, due to the reader. I also listened to When Hope Blossoms by Kim Vogel Sawyer, this book was a detour from her usual work, as it had a contemporary setting. However, it a had great story.
I am currently reading A Tattered Quilt, by Wanda Brunstetter, which is the sequel to The Half-Stitched Quilting Circle.

Emma is my least favorite of JA’s novels. I don’t like the title character, and it’s never a good thing when I finish a romance novel thinking the hero could do so much better for himself.
I haven’t read Austenland in years–not since it first came out. Not sure if I want to re-read it or just see the movie. While I remember the story being cute, it obviously didn’t make enough of an impact on me that I’ve felt the desire to re-read it since then.

I’m with you on Emma. And I didn’t like Gwenyth (sp?) Paltrow for years because of that, but she’s really come in to her own now.

Hehe. Yeah. I’m almost ready. Will probably have everything printed tomorrow. Really hoping to get to Melissa’s before leaving but not holding my breath…
(I am as packed as I can get though – at least clothes and stuff. Electronics will have to wait until Wednesday night or Thursday morning.)

Currently, I am reading “Three Brides, No Groom” by Debbie Macomber. I’m also doing an online Bible Study called, “What Happens When Women Say Yes To God” by Lysa Terkeurst. This book is packed full with words of wisdom and insight on how to get closer to God. I love it!
I just finished “Turnabout’s Fair Play” by Kaye Dacus and “The Unexpected Husband” by Debbie Macomber.
Next I will read “Married in Seattle” by Debbie Macomber.
I am currently on a Debbie Macomber kick. Also, I have been watching The White Queen on television and I think I will start reading that series. The action on the TV series is moving so fast, I don’t understand a lot of the political upheaval that seems to be going on.

I’ve hit a few duds lately, mostly dud because of historical inaccuracy. So I’m not going to name those.
I read Rebellious Heart, and while it was better than most novels I’ve read recently, it wasn’t as good as Noble Groom or Unending Devotion.

I read an addictive romance novel I have to share with you and your readers called “Come Fly with Me” by author Judith Whitmore (http://www.judithwhitmore.com/books/come-fly-with-me/). The book is for anyone who likes a strong female lead who doesn’t wait to be rescued but goes out there and looks for change!The novel follows the unlikely couple Rick and Kate. Rick is a loner pilot who has given up on love and enjoys his fast pace life of flying celebrities and multimillionaires all over the world. Kate on the other hand is in a loveless marriage with a over-achieving workaholic. She has money and time but she’s obviously not happy. She has pursued flying as a way to escape the mundane. Rick becomes Kate’s teacher and the two instantly bond over their love of flying. Their connection makes them realize that they are both missing something very important and fulfilling in their lives, Love! There is so much more to the book I can’t even begin to get into but there are so many twists and turns you won’t be able to put it down.
