What is the most recent book you’ve finished reading?
I spent the afternoon Sunday reading Krista Phillips’s debut contemporary Christian romance novel Sandwich, with a Side of Romance.
I hate to admit it, but that’s the only book I’ve finished reading since the last update. (I was going to say “in June,” but I read it on July 1.)
What are you currently reading?
I have several books “going” right now—books I’ve started but haven’t finished yet:
Dreamspell by Tamara Leigh
Torchwood: Slow Decay by Andy Lane
The Dog That Talked to God by Jim Kraus
Fool for Love by Eloisa James (audiobook read by Justine Eyre)
Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane, Book 1) by Elizabeth Hoyt
What’s the next book on your To Be Read stack?
My goal is to finish all of these books I’ve started before our next update on the first Monday in August! And considering I just download six or seven new books (all free) and another half dozen samples, I’d better start building reading time into my schedule every day so that I can start catching up!

Just Finished-Mrs Pringle of Fairacre~whenever I need a soothing read I fall back on my Ms.Read collection; gentle bucolic read set in 1040’s english countryside from a school teacher perspective. Right before that, it was the River’s call by Melody Carlson-this series was a slow start for me but thoroughly enjoyed it once I got going.
Now reading-Submerged by Dani Pettrey, a new author for me & suspense into the bargain.
TBR-nothing specific on the list, have a few new to me on the shelf just in case nothing else exciting comes along, Michael Snyder & CJ Darlington-thicker than blood.

Jenn–did you really mean in the 1040s, or is that supposed to be in the 1940s? Either way, the series sounds like a great read!

Totally unrelated to reading, but since my sis and I are out of new Doctor Who episodes, Torchwood is up next. Sometimes a gal just needs some Jack Harkness in her life.

I’ve had a few ‘meh’ books recently in my personal reading. I’m currently 2/3 of my way through an advance copy of Double Blind (by Brandilyn Collins, due to release October 2012). Absolutely brilliant!

I don’t know if the problem with my unfinished books is that they’re “meh” or I’m just feeling “meh” about them.

And have just noticed that Sandwich, with a Side of Romance is also sitting on my Kindle waiting for me to read and review. Looking forward to it.
(Anyway, never mind reading. Aren’t you now working and writing a book in your ‘spare’ time? No wonder you’ve only finished one book!)

Question 1–I began a 6 book series called Jacob’s Daughter– by Samantha Jillian Bayarr, which is a series set near Shipshewana Indiana. I have read books 1-3. The books are very short, more like novellas, but very good. I also just finished the Half-Stitched Quilting Circle, which was also set near Shipsewana. This had a nice story with a unique twist. I also listen to a lot of audio books, too numerous to mention, I finish 1 to 2 a week, sometimes more.
Question 2–Currently, reading Book 4 of the Jacob’s Daughter Series.
Question 3–Books 5 and 6 of my current series and the Sheriff’s Legacy, by the same author. Northanger Abby–Jane Austen (my spelling is atrocious). A biography of John Newton and probably David Copperfield (planning trip to England) DIckens is always a good choice

I started listening to my not-quite-half-finished audio book this morning while getting ready for work. I figure if nothing else, that’s 45 minutes a day I can devote to “reading” without taking time away from other responsibilities.

Just read: Doctor’s Devotion by Cheryl Wyatt – need to review for blog [influencer copy]
Reading: Proof by Jordyn Redwood [also influencer]
Up next: Ruth Logan Herne’s current LI release which I can’t remember the title of but has two adorable little girls on the cover
After that: review copies of a couple books [including Sandwich]
But mostly writing since I had a full request for a book that isn’t written yet ;).

I did recently read Lady’s Maid by Susan Page Davis and immediately went looking for the next book [Lady Anne’s Quest] and found review copies of it AND the third book [October release?] which I’ve also read already. Loved them.

I spent a couple of hours last Tuesday night sending out requests for endorsements for Follow the Heart at my editor’s urging. It was so different doing it for my tenth book as opposed to the last time I did it for Stand-In Groom. But I felt like such a hypocrite doing it, since I’ve turned down pretty much every request for endorsement I’ve received since about 2009 due to (a) being a very picky reader and (b) feeling really guilty if I get partway through a book and decide I don’t like it and don’t want to endorse it. So I don’t know how people who do as much influencing as you seem to can do it!

Well, I only offer to influence/review books I’m pretty sure I’ll like which helps I think – don’t have to slog my way through books I thoroughly dislike just because I promised to. [I probably won’t request Follow the Heart, if I’m offered it, because while I’ll likely read and enjoy it, it’s really not my thing time frame/setting wise, so I won’t take a copy from someone who is more likely to, you know? I influenced for Art of Romance, iirc, and was glad to do so.] Actually running into that right now with a book I read based on a true story. There’s very little actual detail known about the story so most of it is completely made up. I’d read another author’s take on it a couple years ago that I really enjoyed so offered to read this one, too. Regardless, it’s a REVIEW copy [not influencer] and am struggling to figure out what to do since I not only didn’t love it, but I didn’t really like it all that much :/. First time it’s happened to me. Fortunately [?], I don’t know the author. But gotta figure it out soon…
Plus, my book buying budget is waaaaaaaaaaaay lower than I’d like so free books is a big incentive ;).
No one will be asking for my endorsement anytime soon [though I do hope to be doing the asking in the not-too-distant future], but I love reading/reviewing/influencing when I can :).

i just finished ‘code name verity’ –the book everyone is reading and i loved it! it has a few unreliable narrators and a ton of twists and turns. i also am reading a book called ‘girls gone mild’ by wendy shalit: which is advocating a return to modest for young women. i am near-through ‘be less crazy about your body’ by megan dietz: a woman i saw featured on the hairpin who is trying to help women overcome their body image issues. … a rampant problem for me and several women in the world 🙂 ‘dreamspell’ by tamara leigh is high on my “soon-to-be-read” list

I just finished reading When The Smoke Clears by Lynette Eason, Short-Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer, and Rearview by Mike Dellosso, as well as a handful of others. I am currently re-reading The Glenbrooke Series by Robin Jones Gunn while I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Lethal Legacy by Irene Hannon and Submerged by Dani Pettrey!

I finished reading and writing my review of from the Mouth of Elijah by Bryan Davis on June 19. Since I love the whole series, I definitely recommend it. On the airplane I read Last Rest by BJ Robinson. It was OK, but had not much depth. I have just started reading Rare Earth by Davis Bunn and am already enthralled. I don’t know how I’ll get any housework done until I finish the book!

Just finished: “A Sketch of the Life and Labors of George Whitefield” by J.C. Ryle. One awesome preacher/author writing about another awesome preacher. Highly recommended! (Very short, too. Only 80 pages.)
Currently reading: “Pilgrim’s Progress” by John Bunyan, and “The Hidden Life of Prayer” by David McIntyre. Both also highly recommended.
Next up: “Gospel” by J.D. Greear

Last book I finished: “Wish You Were Here” by Beth Vogt – LOVED it!
Currently Reading: “Girl in the Gatehouse” by Julie Klassen
To-read: WAY TOO MANY TO MENTION. The next on my list is Katie Ganshert’s “Wildflowers from Winter”, and I really want to read Deborah Raney’s “Forever After” and “After All” as I really liked the first in the series. Wow, i have a billion more I could mention… but finding TIME to read what I want is no easy while keeping up with my own writing goals!

I;m still on Anne Tyler’s books. Finished BREATHING LESSONS and I think that is my favorite. Half way through MAYBE SAINT – fair, this time the husband runs away from the family. I looked on he last page and he tells his son it was because of his wife’s critical spirit, everthing he did seemed to her to be wrong. Makes me wonder if Anne’s husband might have had a critical spirit and she is just expressing how she felt.
In BREATHING LESSONS nobody runs away, they just learn to cope because in reality they love their family.
