A children’s story series that I wrote almost 20 years ago, never published. Maybe I’ll go back and visit it some day.

I get asked that in almost every blog interview I do. Though I love everything I’ve written, I have to say that right now, the one that just won’t leave me alone is Ransome’s Quest. Probably because I was with those characters for so long (more than five years from when I first came up with the idea for a historical romance involving a Royal Navy captain named William to when I finished writing RQ) and because it was really a long-shot that I ever even got to write the whole series—remember, I started writing it when all the publishers/editors were walking around saying historicals were dead, dead, dead, dead. And that Regencies were deader than that.
And RQ is the only one of my books of which I’ve ever sat down and read the actual printed book—the moment it arrived in the mail. And it’s the only one which, months after its release, I wished I had on audiobook so that I could listen to it on the road to/from St. Louis this weekend.
That said, I think that Jamie and Flannery from Turnabout’s Fair Play are my favorite couple I’ve ever written, just because of how much fun they are together.

I see why Ransome’s Quest is so dear to you. I loved the whole series and it had a great finale! I think I’ll be reading my debut novel when it comes out (releasing Jan.).

I thought it was going to be “Oh, you’re an author–what have you published?” I realize you get to answer this question with a smile now, but I always feel like I somehow misled the person.
My favorite is probably the WWII series that started with my SHU thesis novel. I love my WIP, but like you and the Ransome characters, I was with my WWII hodge-podge household for a long time. I loved the research I got to do and the main character was a lot of fun because she was very different from me in a lot of ways. I miss living in the past–I need to finish this contemporary and pick another historical period!

I’m not a writer, but I wrote a paper on Dracula in high school that I really liked. My English teacher thought it was good enough to search me out during finals week to tell me it was the best paper he could remember getting from a student… unfortunately the whole stack of papers got lost or cleaned up by the janitors or something, and my dad trashed the computer I wrote it on without telling me first, so it’s lost forever.

I probably like the memory of it better than I’d like the actual paper if I were to re-read it today 😀

Two things stand out to me. First is the “first kiss” scene in my contemporary completed novel – it takes place in Battery Park in Charleston. Second would be my “meet” scene my current WIP. It’s just plain FUN!
Of course then there’s the sequel to GONE WITH THE WIND that I started in 1981 . . . 😉

My favorite thing is anything to do with The Epic. That’s still the story I’m dying to tell someday, but I also realize my craft isn’t quite there yet. I don’t want to go through a dozen revisions on this one. It deserves my best effort. It’s always brewing in the back of my mind and I finally had some great character breakthroughs about six weeks ago.
I also love my Creole series. It’s helping me work through a lot of my issues related to the last two and a half years of my life.

I’ve only written the one book, but I’ve got so many revisions that I suppose I could say my favorite is #208, or something like that. 🙂
The question I dislike most: Are you published?
I can’t wait until I’m tired of people asking me about the favorite thing I’ve written. 🙂 Someday . . .

im not an author or much of a writer. I do do blog interviews and its one question I hadn’t thought of asking. I guess it would be like asking who a persons favourite child is.

My favorite thing I’ve written is probably the worst thing I’ve written. Several years ago I wrote a fantasy short story for a creative writing class. That story has stuck with me for some reason and I find myself revisiting it often. It’s really awful but I love the premise. Maybe one day I’ll clean it up and do something with it.

Oh, great discussion/question though I’m way late to the party. I think my first book has more of me in it, if that makes sense. My 2nd book has my heart and then my latest book, TCL, was most intriguing to me. Another question might be – which of your protagonists would you be if you could choose? I’d say Roxanna Rowan. For too many reasons to mention, one of them having to be with my redheaded hero;) You have such stellar posts, Kaye. And I’m so glad we connected in St. Lou.
