An Announcement So Big and Public, You Might Say I’m Making a “Great Exhibition”!

Friday, August 12, 2011

Coming in 2013 & 2014 from

Kaye Dacus

and

.

England—1851

An American woman under an edict to “marry money.” A governess facing the bleak reality of unemployment. A spinster seamstress whose only concern is her sick mother. The daughter of a baronet who’s already lost one suitor and refuses to lose another. A headmistress living with the shame of her family’s past. A school teacher with little to live on and less to hope for.

Prince Albert’s Great Exhibition was meant as a worldwide showcase of industry and agriculture—a “Union of All Nations.” Now this great world’s fair becomes the stage for another sort of “union” . . . this time of the romantic kind!

Click the mock cover image to learn more about each book.
(These are all working titles—subject to change!)

.
Follow the Heart (May 2013)
An American woman is sent to England to marry wealth, but finds herself torn between the poor man she loves and the viscount who offers the wealth and stability that can save her family.
.

.

.

.
An Honest Heart (October 2013)
A physician with a secret past falls in love with the daughter of one of his patients. He must choose between revealing his past, which could mean losing everything, or keeping his secret and watching her marry another man.
.

.
.

.
The Heart That Waits (April 2014)
Stephen Brightwell, Viscount Thynne, wants to be loved for himself, not his money or title. Mercy Timperleigh has never married because of the shame of her family’s past. When the aristocrat and the schoolmistress fall in love, is it a love that has been worth waiting for?

(All the artwork here was done by me—from images I found online—and in no way represents the much better job B&H will do with the covers!)

And how poetic is this? Here’s the post from last year in which I introduced the templates for the main characters—posted exactly one year ago today!

Needless to say, this contract has been in the works for a while—given that I finalized and submitted the proposal to my agent almost a year ago. I’m super excited to be embarking on an new adventure with a new publishing house, B&H Publishing Group, and am looking forward to getting to know Julie Gwinn and the entire B&H team. The other nice thing is that the B&H offices are located right here in my hometown of Nashville, so I was actually able to drop off the contracts there after signing them yesterday!

So, what do you think of my new endeavor?

Congratulations, Kaye 🙂 You will have a fabulous time working with Julie and the B&H team, I’m certain.

Thanks, Rel! I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone at B&H, especially since they’re practically right in my backyard. (It takes me only about 10-15 minutes to get to their office building from my house—unlike the 8-9 hours it takes me to get to Barbour’s offices).

Thanks, Keli! I’m looking forward to doing this kind of series with the historical setting—I loved writing the Ransome series, but it was hard structuring one continuing story into three books.

A huge congratulations! I’m so excited to hear you’re doing another historical series. I just finished “Ransome’s Quest” and LOVED it! Ned and Charlotte stole the show (for me, at least) … =D Even though the epilogue wraps it up nicely, I think it would be neat to follow along with William, Julia, Ned, Charlotte, etc. in those “missing years”. *I don’t want to spoil some of the story, so forgive me for being so vague*

I just purchased “Love Remains” from Borders’ closing sale, so I hope to read that soon, so I can be ready for “Turnabout’s Fair Play” (because that one sounds really good). =)

I’m glad you found LR. And you’ve got until November to get it read so you’re caught up on the series before TFP comes out.

I’m looking forward not only to being able to focus on just one series for a while, but also to bring what I’ve learned writing the contemporaries—the stand-alone, yet still connected stories—to my historical writing.

It does seem like a long wait, but I have to have time to write the books . . . and then they have to have time to edit/produce them. It’s so nice to have eight months to get a book written instead of just two or three!

Thanks, Robin! I guess that means I need to buckle down, put the research aside (what I’ve been spending my “writing time” doing the last couple of weeks), and get on the ball with that first draft!

Yes! I am excited to read this series and glad that you have a contract. The only downside is that there won’t be any new books from you next year unless you have another Barbour contemporary series in 2012. Is that right?

    • Friday, August 12, 2011 11:56 am

Unfortunately, Barbour has already filled their schedule for 2012, so, no, I won’t have anything out with them next year, either. But that’s okay, it’ll give me a chance to focus on getting this new series written while also giving me a chance to do some serious marketing on the books I already have out which, because of their close release dates to each other over the past two years, I haven’t really had the luxury to do.

SO excited for you! And for US! 😀 I was hoping this series would sell!

Halfway through RANSOME’S QUEST . . . loving every word! Have I mentioned that between you, Laura Frantz, and Mary Connealy, I now like historicals again? Bless you!

Thanks, Sara! I know it’s going to be hard to wait for it to come out (they aren’t releasing until a year after I turn them in), but I think God decided I needed a break from the incessant deadlines and constant pressure of three books a year!

I’m really excited about working in a new era. I’ve been having fun doing research—probably too much fun, as I determined I’d get through the first draft as quickly as I could and then go back and fill in holes with details and facts. So, I need to get my tail in gear and get writing!

    Yippee!

And for voting (advance copy….?) I like the sound of the 3rd one best. Identity stuff is frequently my favorite.

I don’t know what it is about the “secret that could ruin everything” but I can’t read those types of books. There seems to be be no way for that to come out well . With my “feel good” reads it’s not just about the happy ending, it’s about how much anguish I have the stamina to pay for it. (And I’m a wimp.)

But I’m *so* excited for you!

If you like the “identity” aspect, you might enjoy the second book’s secret—it’s a secret of his background, of who he is and where he came from. 😉

I’m sure you manage it perfectly– and I guess I’m more interested with that teaser. I’ve just noticed I’m one of those (rare?) readers who really doesn’t like these squirmy feelings.

I’m so thrilled it’s all finalized now. Staying quiet has been REALLY hard the last couple weeks. My only complaint is having to wait a year and a half to read the first one.

I am so excited about this new series set during Prince Albert’s Great Exhibition, can’t wait to learn the history surrounding that event. I just recently “discovered” your books through my aunt who loaned me “Stand-In Groom”. I enjoyed it so much I ran out and bought the rest of the series! Just finished MFR and LOVE Major and Meredith! Looking forward to reading your historical series next starting with “Ransome’s Honor” which I just downloaded. YAY! Your blog is great too, you give great insight into your process. Thanks for sharing.
