Home from the Hospital
Now the healing begins.
I’ll fill you in on the details of everything tomorrow, but just wanted to thank everyone for your prayers and positive thoughts. I did have to stay in the hospital overnight, which I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do, but I’m now home (at home with Mom and Dad) with my laptop, my Starbucks sugar-free caramel latte, dog snoring in her bed to my left, and a couple of pillows under my foot—all accompanied by the noise of the construction guys installing the drywall in the new closet/sitting-room addition to my parents’ master bedroom.
While lying awake for several hours last night, I forced myself to think about Caylor and Dylan; and though I didn’t have any epiphanies about their story, it did put them back in my mind. So today, I’m going to go back and read through the first 2/3 of the manuscript that’s already written and try to blitz through the rest of the manuscript—hopefully by the end of the month, since I won’t have anything else I can do between now and then. 😉

I’m not going to push myself and risk re-injury, but I am going to do everything possible to ensure a speedy recovery! I know after two months with my parents (no matter how much I love them), I’m going to be more than ready to be back home.

Thanks, Henya! Surgery is always stressful, but staying in the hospital overnight is the most stressful part of it. So glad I’m home where I’m comfy, able to move around at will, and should sleep well.

Yay for being home & having this surgery over & done with! Best of luck with the MS read-through and finishing up Caylor & Dylan’s story.

Just went out on a limb and told my agent I’d have it finished by the end of the month. So that luck’s definitely needed!

Thanks, Jason. You know, it’s not fair to make fun of me when I’m injured. So be nice with that “Things Kaye Says” game at the Christmas brunch!

I will. The idea in my head is a Jeopardy style game where one of the categories is “Things Kaye Dacus Says.” One of the clues could be “Kaye agrees with this man that rules are more like guidelines…”

Everyone from the EMTs, the ER, the doctor’s office, and surgery center have been really surprised by how cheerful and chipper I’ve been throughout this whole ordeal. Hopefully that will continue and help speed the healing process.

Maybe what I’ve gone through in the last two weeks will help add more emotional resonance to the story.

Thanks, Kav! The physician’s assistant who came in to discharge me this morning (and whom I’ll be seeing next week to get the splint removed and have my incisions checked) was really cute. I couldn’t see a wedding ring, but even so, maybe that’ll be some good motivation/inspiration for me over the next week. 🙂

I’m glad I came back to check in and find you settled and ready for Recovery Road. Something nifty will come of this, I just know it. God is so like that!
And hey, it’s also a great time to rent Rear Window…

Considering the physical injuries I gave to several of my characters in Ransome’s Quest, which I’ll be revising/editing next month, this experience will definitely allow me to re-read it with a better eye for authenticity.
