Fun Friday–You Give Love a Bad Name

Friday, June 11, 2010

I haven’t done a meme for a Fun Friday post in a long time. I did this one on Facebook a couple of years ago, so it seems like a good time to resurrect it. (You’ll understand the post’s title when you see the last question.)

1. Put your iTunes/Windows Media Player on shuffle with your entire music library selected.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS!
4. Make a fun/silly/witty comment on your answer.
5. Feel free to post your answers in the comments; or if you do this meme on your site, please come back and post a link.

1. What is your motto?
“Barbossa Is Hungry” (by Klaus Badelt from the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl soundtrack)
Maybe that’s why I can’t seem to lose weight.

2.What do your friends think of you?
“I Found a Friend” (recorded by Gordon McCrae and Jo Stafford)
Obviously.

3.What do you think about very often?
“A Person Can Change” (from the Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day soundtrack)
Don’t know that I really think about that all that often, but I do believe it.

4. What is 2+2?
“More” (recorded by Bobby Darin)
Seriously—this is the song that came up on this click! Could it be any more perfect?.

5.What do you think of your best friend?
“You Make Me Feel So Young” (recorded by Frank Sinatra)
Isn’t that what a best friend should do for you?

6.What do you think of the person you like?
“Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” (J.S. Bach, recorded by Yo-Yo Ma)
Appropriate, since there isn’t a romantic interest in my life currently (or even in the recent past)

7. What is your life story?
“Benundrum” (by Michael Giacchino from the LOST: Season 4 soundtrack)
Hmmm . . . a song title that’s a play on the word conundrum. Pretty fitting, actually.

8.What do you want to be when you grow up?
“To Die for Love” (by Patrick Doyle from the Sense & Sensibility soundtrack)
I hope not!

9.What do you think when you see the person you like?
“Stardust” (recorded by Nat King Cole from the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack)
“Love is now the stardust of yesterday . . . the music of the years gone by . . .”

10.What do your parents think of you?
“Maternity Hell” (by Michael Giacchino from the LOST: Season 4 soundtrack)
My player is usually better about skipping around to all the albums than this, but LOL!

11.What will you dance to at your wedding?
“This Guy’s In Love With You” (recorded by Steve Tyrell)
What a great song—slow and romantic! I tingle just imagining new hubby crooning this in my ear throughout the first dance.

12. What will they play at your funeral?
“Let’s Misbehave” (recorded by Elvis Costello from the De-Lovely soundtrack)
ROTFLOL! Maybe I should be living it up a little more.

13. What is your hobby/interest?
“Hella Bar Talk” (by Michael Giacchino from the Star Trek soundtrack)
Hmmm . . . I don’t go to bars, but I do like to talk! (And I could comment on how much the opening few notes of this piece sound like it could have been from one of the LOST soundtracks, but I won’t.)

14. What is your biggest secret?
“Life Is a Song” (recorded by Tony Bennett)
Don’t know if that’s a secret or not, but I always have some kind of music running through my head.

15. What do you think of your friends?
“That’s How It Goes” (recorded by Michael Bublé)
Yep, that’s pretty much how I roll,

16. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
“Why Don’t You Believe Me?” (recorded by Dean Martin)
It’s never a good feeling when someone doesn’t believe (or believe in) you.

17.How will you die?
“When I Reach the Place I’m Going” (recorded by Wynonna Judd)
LOL—I guess when my job here is done, so will be my time here.

18. What makes you laugh?
“Memories of Home” (from the HBO miniseries The Pacific soundtrack)
Good times, good times.

19.What makes you cry?
“You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You” (recorded by Dean Martin)
That would make me cry, if nobody loved me.

20. Will you ever get married?
“If You’ll Have Me” (from the Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day soundtrack)
Again, a repeated album, but still . . . couldn’t get a better answer than that!

21. What scares you the most?
“Finding Private Ryan” (by John Williams from the Saving Private Ryan soundtrack)
Maybe I’m afraid Private Ryan has it out for me!

22. Does anyone like you?
“There’s Yes! Yes! in Your Eyes” (recorded by Dean Martin)
Hmmm . . . does this mean I have an admirer???

23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?
“The Black Gate Opens” (by Howard Shore from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King soundtrack)
I’d stop the Black Gate from opening!

24. What hurts right now?
“Locke’s Excellent Adventure” (by Michael Giacchino from the Lost: Season 5 soundtrack)
Yep, I’m still hurting over the way they chose to end the series.

25. What is the one thing you regret?
“When You Say Nothing at All” (recorded by Keith Whitley)
There are many times in my life when I could have/should have spoken up but didn’t.

26. What will you post this as?
“You Give Love a Bad Name” (recorded by Bon Jovi)
I hope not! After all, giving love a “good name” is what I’m building my career on!

Your turn!

It’s tempting to skip around to find answers that are more appropriate (or funny) than what comes up. Last time I did this, I used only my vocal-music playlist, but decided I’ve been listening to the instrumentals so much more than the vocals lately that it wouldn’t be “fair” to not include them (as if their feelings would be hurt?????). 😉

So I was supposed to get my daughter’s OLD iPod when she got her new, shiny one for Christmas. I had stuff picked out to load on it and everything. Of course her NEW one was stolen out of her purse, at school, in about March. Ergo, no iPod for Mom. 😦 And this sounds like so much FUN!

Don’t you have music on your computer? That’s where all of my music is kept (if I ever have to purchase a CD because something isn’t available for MP3 download, I immediately rip it to Windows Media Player . . . and then promptly lose the CD). And since I have it all on my laptop, I’m more likely than not to leave my MP3 player at home and use the laptop as a giant (and expensive) music player at night (since I have to have music when I’m sleeping to block out all of the unfamiliar noises that might otherwise keep me awake).

LOL!!!! Some of those were hysterical!!! However I’m so not a technowhiz that I don’t have an ipod!!!! Yes, I know you’re shocked. I love music but don’t think to listen to it a lot. I used to live on the ground floor of a highrise on a really, really busy road and the traffic noise was deafening. When I finally moved to a tiny bungalow on a quieter street I was so pleased with the peaceful nature sounds — birds chirruping, leaves rustling in the wind, crickets, chipmunks, squirrels…ah bliss! That became music to my noise-addled brain and I realize now that I rarely listen to music anymore.

I have a constant ringing/buzzing in my ears, so if I don’t have some kind of ambient noise, like music or the TV or the AC running, it will make me go psycho. I started needing music at night to sleep when I lived in a duplex (a small house divided into two one-bedroom apartments) and seven or eight (though it sounded like twenty or thirty) people lived in the other side—with wood floors and people stomping around, laughing, and talking at all hours of the night.

And if the birds around here would “sing” more than just the same three- or four-note pattern over and over and over and over and over and over and over . . . I’d probably enjoy the sounds of nature a lot more.

OK…I’m cranking up my netbook’s WinAmp…I have 3,101 songs on my hard drive so this should be interesting…

    1. What is your motto?

M/A/R/R/S – Pump Up The Volume

Seems silly for people who meet me for the first time and I’m usually completely silent. Get around me when I’m cranked up for improv or speaking to a group & this pretty much fits.

2.What do your friends think of you?

This assumes I have friends. 🙂

    Hillsong – King of Majesty

Well, that’s normal. Once people get to know me, they pretty much worship the ground I walk on. (That’s called sarcasm, people.)

3.What do you think about very often?

Don Henley – Not Enough Love In The World

Yeah, I can roll with this…most people talk a good game about loving other people but in reality will drive past the homeless guy on the corner begging for food so you can eat the two Quarter Pounders with Cheese in the passenger seat next to you.

    4. What is 2+2?

The Waiting – The Air I Breathe

Um…I have no idea how this one would fit the question. 🙂

5.What do you think of your best friend?

Lincoln Brewster – You Are The One

Push aside the song’s about God, I pretty much feel that way about Amy.

6.What do you think of the person you like?

    Jennifer Knapp – Undo Me

Well, I’m married, so I can’t really ask Anne Hathaway to do this… 😉

    7. What is your life story?

R.E.M. – Man on the Moon

It’s a song about Andy Kaufman. Boy, can I relate to life being bizarre.

8.What do you want to be when you grow up?

    Southern Pacific – Pink Cadillac

I wouldn’t mind being a popular as Springsteen (who, if you didn’t know, wrote this song…)

9.What do you think when you see the person you like?

    Martika – Toy Soldiers

Well, I hope the people I like aren’t a bunch of raving drug addicts like in the song. Although most of them are addicted to caffeine…

10.What do your parents think of you?

Emmylou Harris – Two More Bottles of Wine

Yeah, I caused them headaches on that level.

11.What will you dance to at your wedding?

Aerosmith – Livin’ On The Edge

Well, we didn’t dance at our wedding but this song sure fit the days following the “I do”s!

    12. What will they play at your funeral?

Presidents of the United States of America – Mixed Up S.O.B.

At this moment, that seems pretty fitting to me (if they switched the gender of the person in the song, that is…)

    13. What is your hobby/interest?

    Clint Black – Nobody’s Home

Honestly…most of the things I like do are usually alone for the most part: Walking & writing

    14. What is your biggest secret?

John Michael Montgomery – The Little Girl

Most people have no idea when they meet Julie that she’s not my biological daughter. We don’t tell them either.

    15. What do you think of your friends?

The Hooters – Time Stand Still

The rare times I have friends and hang out I would appreciate more time to enjoy. Life’s way too busy sometimes.

    16. What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Johnny Cash – Don’t Take Your Guns To Town

Yeah, some body running around shooting people would be bad.

    17.How will you die?

Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne – Close My Eyes Forever

Seriously…this is what came up. I hope my final exit isn’t suicide but during my teen years it almost became reality.

    18. What makes you laugh?

    Rush – War Paint

Another surprisingly fitting choice. As a writer (and former radio broadcaster) I like to people watch. I get both amused and saddened at teen girls who are over-made-up and under-clothed trying to create an illusion of maturity.

    19.What makes you cry?

    Dwight Yoakum – Little Ways

Well, I don’t cry often but Amy knows how to make it happen.

    20. Will you ever get married?

    Prince – I Would Die 4 U

Well, I felt that way about my wife before I married her.

    21. What scares you the most?

Casting Crowns – Does Anybody Hear Her?

Yeah, I do fear being ignored by everyone. It happens a lot more than I care to admit. Usually with good reason.

    22. Does anyone like you?

    Rush – Ghost Rider

Hmm…does that mean there really are spirits following me around?

    23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?

Def Leppard – Too Late For Love

Ironically, if I could go back in time, I would tell my past self to pay more attention to those I love because you can’t get that time back.

    24. What hurts right now?

    Clear – Clarity

LOL…considering I’ve been struggling wondering whether to keep going with writing or not since Blue Ridge that’s an ironic choice, Mr. WinAmp. 😉

    25. What is the one thing you regret?

The Eagles – Life In The Fast Lane

Right now, I regret following my ego and going into radio. Sure, some good things came from it but I’m paying for it now with no upper level job skills and a lot of personal failures that came from that business. I won’t go any further but this song fits more than I care to admit…

    26. What will you post this as?

    ZZ Top – Doubleback

Well, it DID make me think of my past a lot! 😉

    1. What is Your Motto?
    Jason Upton, Jacob’s Dream
Hmm…my motto actually runs closer to DEpopulating the Earth. Not the best start.

    2. What do Your Friends Think of You?
    America, Last Unicorn
Yes. They do indeed think I am rare and graceful, and they know I don’t like Red Bull.

    3. What do you think about very often?
    Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Dreams of Candlelight
    Hmm. I do daydream a lot, but…

    4. What is 2+2?
The Streets, Heaven for the Weather
True, it is more than 4 degrees “on the Streets,” though I wouldn’t exactly call this heat “Heaven.”

    5. What do you think of your best friend?
Pierce Pettis, Words Said in the Dark.
I guess the title of this song sounds kind of creepy if you don’t know it, but it’s actually very sweet. And makes me think of slumber parties.

Fun! I love how yours were sometimes direct answers to the questions. May do more later.

Family Prayer Song (As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.)
    That’s definitely my motto.

Well, I doubt any of them think that about me, but I hope they all think that about the Lord!

3.What do you think about very often?
    He Knows my Name
    Definitely.

    4. What is 2+2?
    Where do I Go?
Hahaha- One of the phrases of this song is “Where do I go when I need some helpin’?” I mean, I didn’t do all that well in college algebra, but I think I can handle 2+2!

5.What do you think of your best friend?
    Through the Fire
My husband is my best friend. We’ve faced a lot of fires over the years, and I wouldn’t want anyone else walking through those fires with me.

    7. What is your life story?
Good King Wenceslas????? Sorry, this requires a do-over.
    The Warrior is a Child
This is definitely my life story right now. We are on summer break from school, and the children are war with each other.

8.What do you want to be when you grow up?
    Savior
I definitely don’t want to BE the Savior. I’m just glad I BELONG to the Savior.

9.What do you think when you see the person you like?
    Radically Saved
So true. When I “see” Jesus in prayer or in the Word, I think about the radical action it took to save me. Can’t wait to see Him in person and thank Him face to face!

10.What do your parents think of you?
    Breathe on Me
I hope they are praying that the Holy Spirit will continue to breathe on me!

11.What will you dance to at your wedding?
    Let my Words be Few
Well, we didn’t dance at my wedding, but I’m sure my husband prays this daily about me. :0)

    12. What will they play at your funeral?
    Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus
    This would be perfect!

    13. What is your hobby/interest?
All the Way my Savior Leads Me
Yeah. I spend a lot of time pursuing this.

    14. What is your biggest secret?
    People Need the Lord
Ouch! I hope this is NOT a secret in my life!

    15. What do you think of your friends?
    You are my King
I love my friends, but none of them are King. Jesus is King.

    16. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
That’s What we Came Here For
Hahaha! Being on earth. That’s the worst thing that could happen to me. Fortunately, this world is not my home.

    17.How will you die?
How to get on Fire for God (Ray Comfort Sermon)
    Oh heavens. I hope not.

    18. What makes you laugh?
    I Will be Here
Yep. If I’m here, I’m laughing about something.

    19.What makes you cry?
You’re Still Lord/He is Lord Medley
    Absolutely.

    20. Will you ever get married?
    Peace in the Valley
“‘Til the Lord comes to call me away!”

    21. What scares you the most?
    Desiring God-Part 3
The part that scares me is the persecution that comes with desiring God. (II Timothy 3:12- Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.)

    22. Does anyone like you?
    O Come all Ye Faithful
My church family tolerates me :0)

    23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?

    24. What hurts right now?
    Friends
    Friends who don’t know Jesus.

    25. What is the one thing you regret?
    Out of His Great Love
All the wasted time I’ve spent choosing to stay away from His great love by sinning / not being faithful to Him.

    26. What will you post this as?
    Everyday
Yep, all of these songs pretty much sum up my everyday life. (Well, except #17. That’s freaking me out. A lot of martyrs died that way!)

LOL–I made sure I deselected all of my audio books, as most of the tracks don’t have titles beyond “Track 3.” Wouldn’t that have made for some, um, fun answers. 😉

As for #17, I’d interpret that as saying when you die, you’ll have died as someone who lived her life “on fire for God.”

    6. What do you think of the person you like?
    Too Bad, Nickelback
It is indeed, for anyone who’s liked by me. (This song is uber-embarrassing. I swear it’s my only Nickelback. But I love the chorus.)

    7. What is your life story?
    Play with Fire, Rolling Stones
Again, this is the exact opposite of the truth. Thanks to my mom’s horrific nursing tales, I was never tempted to play with fire.

    8. What do you want to be when you grow up?
    Hand of Sorrow, Within Temptation
True. I wish to reach out and touch people. With sadness.

    9. What do you think when you see the person you like?

    10. What do your parents think of you?
I Fought the Law, The Clash
During my teenage years, I’m sure they fought the desire to break anti-homicide laws.

    11. What will you dance to at your wedding?
    Disco Ball Heart, Edie Carey
Man, I so so wanted the Rent soundtrack to come up, since that’s what was actually during the ceremony at my wedding. But still, refers to dancing and love.

    12. What will they play at your funeral?
    Martha My Dear, Beatles
Whoa. This has the lyric “Please Remember Me.” Creeptastic.

    13. What is your hobby/interest?
Someone New, Escobar and Heather Nova
That’s me. Flitting from man to man.

    14. What is your biggest secret?
    Chemistry, Semisonic
I never took Chemistry in high school, but maybe I’m secretly good at it. But most likely my secret is simply that I love this song.

    15. What do you think of your friends?
    Dante’s Prayer, Loreena McKennit
They do indeed need prayer. Getting to know me is like going through the Seven Circles.

    Scarborough Fair, Simon and Garfunkel
A Renaissance fair is the BEST thing that could happen!

    17. How will you die?

    Squirrelaholic, The Knockdown
Wow. That WOULD make me laugh.

People with too much plastic surgery do make me cry.

    20. Will you ever get married?
    Brave New Worship, Kelanie Gloeckler
I’m already married, and picking up socks and doing laundry is a new, brave form of worshiping (well, serving) my husband. Also: I was careful to spell this artist’s name right so you could check her out RIGHT NOW. She’s amazing.

    21. What scares you the most?
    Lie to Me, Jonny Lang
It kind of scares me how angry I get about Christians who lie. I don’t judge gays or prostitutes, but I have very little grace for people who claim to follow Jesus and don’t tell the truth. Guess I need to work on that.

    22. Does anyone like you?
    Kiss Off, Violent Femmes
    Well. Guess that answers that.

    23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?
A Sorta Love Song, Marin Mazzie
This song has beautiful piano, and I think I would’ve asked for piano lessons as a kid.

    24. What hurts right now?

Yes. The lipstick I found on your keyboard that proves you’ve been untrue…how it hurts…

    25. What is the one thing you regret?

It’s Just a Little Awkward, Cast of I Sing!
Some of these songs do fit pretty awkwardly with the questions.

    I enjoyed this.
Can’t wait to meet you at ACFW, Kaye. I am totally going to act like you’re a celebrity.

I decided to use only vocal songs, because the majority of my Ipod is soundtracks. sooooo yeah. But I realized that the majority of my songs are either soundtracks or musicals. 😉 So it ended up being a very interesting list. 😉

Praise Your Holy Name (The Wilds)
    I like that. 😉

2.What do your friends think of you?
The Phantom of the Opera (Michael Crawford)
Nice. What’s that supposed to mean???

    Sisters (Rosemary Clooney)
    Because there are lots.

    4. What is 2+2?
Why Can’t the English? (My Fair Lady Soundtrack)
If the English haven’t taught their children how to speak, they probably haven’t taught them math, either.

Feed the Birds (Mary Poppins Soundtrack)
She is an animal lover, sooo…

Aww. Now if I were to only meet said person…

10.What do your parents think of you?
    The Prayer (Charlotte Church)
Yeah, they’ve probably had a lot of that. “I pray you’ll be our light…” and all that. I was a pretty ornery little thing. Not like I’m not now… 😉

    16. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Fantine’s Arrest (Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Recording)
Hahahaha. Fantine is my favorite character in the musical, so I guess this is appropriate.

    17.How will you die?
    Whoopi-Ti-Yi-Yo (Sons of San Joaquin)
That is totally random. Herding cattle?

    18. What makes you laugh?
Papa, Can You Hear Me? (Michael Crawford)
Being lost somewhere is no laughing matter.

    19.What makes you cry?
I Will Always Love You (Katherine Jenkins)
The song, of course is talking about a couple who’s relationship won’t work out, but “I will always love you”. Tragic love stories are some of my favorites, and they always make me cry, soooo this is pretty appropriate.

    20. Will you ever get married?
How Long Must This Go On? (Beauty and the Beast Broadway Cast Recording)\
Sometimes I feel that way about being single.

    21. What scares you the most?

If they do, they feel that I still need to enjoy the childhood (?) I have left, I guess, because I haven’t heard anything.

    23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?
The Gypsy (Jane Eyre Original Broadway Recording)
    Um. ????

It’s amazing the things you didn’t know you had.

    25. What is the one thing you regret?

    26. What will you post this as?

Because sometimes nothing helps a girl like a good cry.

I don’t have an ipod either, so I took my few CD’s, wrote down the titles of the songs, cut them into little strips, put them in a box with a lid, shook it up and drew titles without looking.

    1. What is your motto?
“When We All Get Together With the Lord” (by The Gaither Vocal Band)

That’s how it should be. We should always keep Heaven and eternity in mind with all our decisions.

2.What do your friends think of you?
“O mio babbino caro” translated “My Expensive Dad” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

I hope my friends like me for more than my dad’s money! Actually, my dad does like to go around giving people money to help them out. He’s been doing that for years. He’s a wonderful man and smart too!

3.What do you think about very often?
“Praise You” (from the CD “Created to Praise”)

Oh, yes I do. God is worthy to be praised. He has done so many wonderful things for me.

    4. What is 2+2?
“Lullaby” (from The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway Musical)

Lullabys and 2+2 are the basics that one learns as a child.

5.What do you think of your best friend?
“Yes I Know” (recorded by the Gaither Vocal Band)

Yes, I know that my best friends will always be around and I can rely on them.

6.What do you think of the person you like?
“A Purified Heart” (from the CD “Created to Praise”)

Up and down, up and down. Yes, that’s the best way to describe life.

“O Fortuna” translated “O Fortune” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

Oh, yes! My good fortune has arrived!

10.What do your parents think of you?
“They Seek Him Here” (from The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway Musical)

I’m not the Prodigal Son and I actually still live in my parents’ house, so I don’t think that would apply to my parents.

11.What will you dance to at your wedding?
“Cielito Lindo” translated “Heavenly One” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

    Awwwe!

    12. What will they play at your funeral?

“Wait Upon the Lord” (from the CD “Created to Praise)

Secret? Uhm….not likely. I tend to wait and wait and wait rather than going ahead like I should sometimes.

    15. What do you think of your friends?
“Piano Summary” (by Carl Davies from the Pride and Prejudice BBC soundtrack)

Like the piano summary my friends are always there behind the scenes, in the scenes, everywhere.

    16. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
“The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference” (recorded by the Gaither Vocal Band)

No, no, no!!!!!!!! The best thing. I guess a personal, literal crucifixion would be the worst thing by itself.

    17.How will you die?
“Draussen In Sievering Bluht Schon Der Flieder” translated “Outside In Sievering The lilac blooms early” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

Lilacs smell good so I guess that would be a good way to go; among the lilac bushes.

Yes, one can laugh again when hard times are over.

    23. If you could go back in time, what would you change?
“Chianti-lied” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

I looked it up and cannot figure out what this means. Chianti is a region in Italy, but the other part I can’t find a translation for.

    24. What hurts right now?
“Perpetual Motion” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

    LOL! That would hurt indeed!

    25. What is the one thing you regret?
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (recorded by Andre Rieu and the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

That was a favorite song of my seven year old niece. She along with her four year old brother, and their mother (my sister) all died in a car accident in January of 2009. I always, always think of her when I hear that song and regret that I didn’t see their family more often. Now, when I hear that song I think of “over the rainbow” as Heaven where she is now with her true Prince and her dreams that really did come true.

    26. What will you post this as?
“Manhã de Carnaval” translated “Morning of Carnival” (recorded by Andre Rieu the Johan Strauss Orchestra)

Mornings before an exciting event like a carnival hold much hopeful anticipation. Hopeful anticipation is the best way to start each knew day!
