Super Saturday–When I Fell in Love
I had so much fun at the Marshall County Writers Group meeting on Thursday night in Calvert City, Kentucky . . . so much fun that, after getting home near 1 a.m. (it’s a little more than a two hour drive), I crashed and crashed hard—losing most of Friday in sleeping and then trying to get some freelance projects finished. Therefore, no Fun Friday post. So, since I know many of you are trying to get as many entries in the RANSOME’S CROSSING RELEASE CONTEST as you can, here’s a Saturday post so you don’t lose an opportunity for another entry this week.
One of the questions I’ve been asked several times this week—in interviews as well as at the writers’ group meeting—is where my story ideas come from. As I mentioned on Kathy Harris’s Divine Detour blog, I have the uncanny ability to fall madly in love on a regular basis with characters from TV shows or movies and develop them into my own characters and write romance novels about them. So for those of you who’ve read my books . . . or who may be looking for a little romantic-hero inspiration yourselves . . . today’s post is dedicated to video clips of the actors in the roles that inspired the heroes of my novels.

We loved the series The Highlander. I like Christopher Lambert better than the fellow in the series. Those hooded, blue eyes got me every time.

The thing that always bothered me about Christopher Lambert is that he’s French (or French Canadian??), not Scottish. There are so many good Scottish actors they could have cast in that role! And, of course, the one major Scottish actor they had in the movie was playing a Spaniard!
But, yes, there’s a reason why from the TV series, it’s the side-kick who became one of my heroes and the main character who became one of my villains!

Oh Kaye, those were awesome clips! I think Sawyer would make a most EXCELLENT pirate!!! It is so interesting to see the difference in all the heroes. They all have things that drew me. 🙂 Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your process. (that was alot of work to put that together!!!!)

I’m gearing up to introduce Shaw in another chapter or two . . . .I think that gives me a good excuse to pull out the Season 1 and Season 2 DVDs of LOST!

I tend to do the same thing, Kaye. Many of my heroes start as a combination of an actor/character from a TV show or movie. It’s usually only their appearance and the character’s basic personality. Eventually they morph into something that bears little resemblance character-wise to the original. My hero in Kindred came to life right around the time I saw A Knight’s Tale, with a very blond Heath Ledger (although so many years later the character doesn’t look so much like Heath, but that was the initial “template.”) This process didn’t happen with my hero in my current WIP, which is probably why I’m finding it so hard to come up with an actor who looks like him.

That happened to me with Jamie from Turnabout Is Fair Play—I had the heroine character, because she’s a secondary character in the first two books, so I needed a hero for her. I know who he is, and Sean Patrick Flanery is as close an approximation to him as I could get.

I wondered how long until there was a “Sawyer” video! 😀 And LOVED the Food Network guys! I need to find a way to put Bobby Flay in something….He’s my all-time favorite…
When I came up with the main character in my book, I had no choice. I had to use “Jack” from Sue Thomas: FBEye, Canadian actor Yannick Bisson. Here’s a short video. I hope it works!

Be on the lookout for Ransome’s Crossing in stores . . . someone left a review on Amazon in which she wrote that she’s already bought (and finished reading) it.

Correction—this was a review on the KINDLE version of the book, not one she’d purchased at a store. ::sigh:: Looking around at all the online stores, they’re showing the books won’t be in stock until anywhere from June 20 to July 1.
But I received my first-press-run copy from HH Thursday, with a letter dated May 26 saying that they should be arriving in the warehouse soon and out within “a couple of weeks.” So, here’s hoping for June 15!

Thanks for this look into how your creative mind works, Kaye. I had fun watching the videos — some I’m familiar with, others not so much. And, alas, no Ransome’s Crossing sightings here in Canada yet. We tend to be a bit behind in the releases. There’s a few books I’m impatiently waiting on.

When I looked closer at the review, I realized it was a review on the Kindle version of RC, not the physical version. So, at least it’s already available on Kindle!

I heard that! 😀 I checked at Lifeway, Sam’s, and Wal-mart yesterday, and no Ransome’s Crossing yet. Bummer. Oh, and I also liked the guy you picked for Forbes – I wasn’t familiar with him at all! Forbes was definitely one hero that I started out not even LIKING very much in the first book, and had a serious crush on by the time I got to A Case for Love!!

Kaye, I am so glad that you choose real life people to be your book characters. It makes the characters come alive and seem more like real people. I am one that definitely likes to have the characters’ faces in my head while I am reading a book.
