Busy Week?

Monday, March 15, 2010

I took last week as something of a “spring break” for myself, not having had a full week since . . . well, some time last year during which I could do absolutely nothing without feeling too extremely guilty (but, believe me, there was guilt).

So, this week, it’s back to the grindstone. Between eye doctor and dentist appointments, coffees and lunches with other authors/groups, a meeting with my agent who’ll be in town, trying to get back on track with going to the gym and eating right, a novel to edit (freelance job) and a novel to revise and edit (Love Remains), it’s shaping up to be a VERY busy week.

What does your week look like?

Yikes. You do have a jammed packed week.

A big hurdle for me was cleared last night when I sent off my Genesis entry. I’m feeling my way around the ACFW forums and looking for the e-mail loops.

I’m struggling in the re-write of my WIP to add some meat to the bones of the first draft. I want to get to 40 pages so I can submit it to the critique session for the Blue Ridge conference.

    And 24 is on tonight.

So it’s nowhere near as busy as yours. 🙂

Ugh! Busy is one of those things that can take so many different forms! This week is the not fun type of busy. I’ll be catching up from last weeks type of busy. I was on cloud nine cause I was never bored but now I have to face the consequences.

Work is looking crazy this week – and all because my computer is in the shop. Ugh. Trying to get ready for an author event at my library on the 27th, and it’s looking like I’ll have to do a lot of it “the old fashioned way.” By TELEPHONE! Ack! I tried to get back to some revisions on MS#1 over the weekend, to no avail. If I could find a couple of hours in a row, I think I could knock out a BIG chunk of it. Fortunately, my deadlines are all self-imposed right now. Boy, would I like THAT to change . . .

Well, here’s something good . . . I called the eye doctor’s office to double-check my appointment time (since it was a reschedule from the appointment I had the day I discovered the car died) and they didn’t have me on their schedule at all. So I rescheduled for next Monday—which is great, because both editing projects should be finished by then, which means that having my eyes dilated won’t be as much of a problem for me as it would be if it were done today (my eyes take eight to twelve hours to go back to normal after dilation).

Oh, and I forgot to mention. To meet that July 1 deadline, today is the day I must start writing at least 1,000 words per day on Ransome’s Quest on top of everything else!

Go to Frothy & get a coffee IV. You can power through. 😉

Just re-read the last chapter of Ransome’s Crossing in an effort to re-enter that world and start the first chapter of Ransome’s Quest—and it gave me tingles all over again. Actually, I think I love that ending even more now than I did when I wrote it last fall. Y’all are going to hate me . . . and that just makes me love it more. 😀

My nursing work week looks pretty busy so far. When I turned off my computer and left my desk at the hospital today at 5:30 I had almost two weeks worth of faxes left to address and prioritize. There were 52 patient messages unanswered. I’m starting to dread tomorrow!
My writing work week is looking pretty good, though. Two weeks ago I set a weekly goal of 1500 words. The first week I failed miserably-not even 500 words! So far this week I have almost 1300 and I have two more days in my writing week. (My writing week runs Wednesday through Tuesday.) So that makes me feel pretty good. And, hey, writing can help me escape from the impossible amount of work I have waiting at work and keep me from thinking about how many calls from patient affairs I’m going to get because of angry patients complaining I didn’t return their calls today!
