Editing Services

Kaye has been a professional editor for more than six years, first as a full-time copy editor for Ideals Publications, a division of Guideposts, and more recently as a freelance editor, working for publishing houses such as Barbour, Guideposts, Abingdon Press, and more. In addition to developing and writing the editorial stylebooks and series continuity guides for various publishers and projcts, her work experience includes manuscript acquisitions, proofreading, copywriting, marketing and publicity writing, critiquing, copy editing, and content editing.

She is experienced in editing using the Chicago Manual of Style (15th & 16th Ed.) as well as MLA and AP styles. Kaye received her Master of Arts in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University in June 2006, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a focus on Professional Writing from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2003.

Basic Copyediting

Copyediting and Light Content Editing

For example: a 45,000-word novel would cost $427.50; a 100,0000-word manuscript would cost $950.

Copyediting and Full Critique—Romance Novels Only
(grammar, punctuation, format, layout, continuity, style, characters, voice, showing vs. telling, POV, story feedback and suggestions)
$1.50 per 100 words*

For example: a 45,000-word novel would cost $675; a 100,0000-word manuscript would cost $1,500.

Terms

• Author will send a 30-page sample of work attached to an e-mail designating which level of editing author wants (see below).
• Editor will send written project agreement, with estimated cost**, along with an editing sample (about 5–6 pages of the excerpt provided) to author.
• Author will “sign” agreement by sending 20% down payment and full manuscript. The project completion date will be determined once down payment and full manuscript are received. Editor will send invoice with completed manuscript.
• 20% of total cost (based on pre-edited word-length and level of editing chosen) due upon project agreement.
• Please allow at least a 14-day turnaround time with requested completion dates for manuscripts of 60,000 words and under. Manuscripts of over 60,000 words will require a longer turnaround time, which will be determined based on the level of editing requested and editor’s review of the writing sample. Requests for turnaround in under 14 days will incur a $100 expedite fee, due with 20% down payment.
• Balance of cost due within 14 days of author’s receipt of edited manuscript.
• Payment will be made through PayPal. (Instructions on project agreement.)
• Editing will be done on electronic manuscript using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature. Please send manuscript in one document file in .doc or .docx format.
• Editor reserves the right to deny requests for editing services before project agreement is finalized.
• While editor will do her utmost to ensure accuracy, she is only human, and an error or two may slip by. No financial remuneration will be given to the author unless errors make up more than 10% of text in the final manuscript.

**Upon reviewing writing sample, editor reserves the right to charge a higher rate if the writing is such that it will take extra time to complete the project. This will be reflected in the written project agreement.
