Agreed! I remember the Magnificent Seven. I remember watching Shannon Miller for four years, seeing her develop as a gymnast and wishing I was short enough. I remember the glory days when China was terrible. Yesterday, the medal stand looked exactly as it should.
For the first time in like EVER I’m hardly watching…and when I do I end up changing the channel after half an hour or so. I guess I am just not in the mood this go-around. :-/
Not sure, I think the low point maybe the way the young chinese swimmer is being accused of taking drugs when she has been breaking records as a junior. Its sad that shes presumed guilty because she’s chinese where as other swimmers who seem to have come from nowhere are not having fingers pointed them. The press conference was extremely tough on her basically asking her to confirm she is a cheat and asking how her fans will feel.
I agree. She’s had all the drug testing required for the Olympics and
passed. I don’t understand how she continue to be accused of doping.
Also the Korean badminton teams getting disqualified for cheating, good call there. Why would you go to the Olympics and cheat? Ridiculous.
The Chinese swimmer is probably guilty, though. China has a long record of cheating. Half their women’s gymnastics team in Beijing was too young, and one was actually proven to be too young. But they didn’t even get so much as a slap on the wrist, never mind being disqualified or having medals taken away.
It’s not just gymnastics where China has used underage athletes, they’ve done the same in figure skating. There’s a particular Chinese pair team, and the girl is supposed to have been born in 1995. There’s no way I think she was born in 1995.
Very entertaining! I love the children’s choirs singing from different parts of GB. And Rowan Atkinson playing around with the orchestra, HILARIOUS!! However, didn’t love the music story through the decades. And the tribute to children’s books villains and heroes, where was Aslan?!! Well done, very enjoyable.
Enjoyed it until the kids in the hospital socialized medicine part. And the whole love by internet thing crashed for me. I enjoyed the whole first part and Rowan Atkinson. And of course, Sir Paul.
Not in the USA but for myself I am frustrated with the lack of some sports being covered. I know we want to see the Aussies but we also want to see some of the other sports. Even an update on things like shooting, archery etc which we are competing in. I am not sure what the NBC is like.
I wish they would show as much live coverage as possible. I think the only thing I have seen live is the beach volleyball which I enjoy, but not necessarily one I’m holding my breath about. The computer and news (ESPN) have to be completely avoided if you don’t want to know who won some events, like swimming and gymnastics. My friend was furious because she heard who won the women’s competition before it actually aired yesterday.
It SUCKS!!!!!! Our cable company is entirely too fond of locking users out of their accounts and making it impossible to reset the password without spending two hours on the phone. Whatever happened to the days of showing stuff on USA? NCIS isn’t going anywhere. The Olympics only happen every two years.
For an aussie most of this happens when I sleep. I wish in the highlights they would give way more of the gymnastics. (I know the aussies are not in the teams events but I want to see it I dont care who is participating).
Rachel, we are getting quite a bit of Equestrian I think because of the time it was on and also the fact Australia has a big history in it. But more would be nice.
Much better than I was expecting (although, to be fair, I had low expectations).
Thankfully, I have my comic geek husband to help decipher anything that didn’t make sense to me (Selena Kyle wasn’t as sexy and awesome at what she does as she should have been…oh, that’s because this came from the Year One storyline.)
Since I’m not a huge batman fan, I didn’t have as much of a problem with the fact that he wasn’t on screen as often as everyone else wanted. It was a really good movie, but honestly not my cup of tea.
I saw it with my husband opening weekend. We enjoyed it, but I thought it was more violent than a comic book movie should be. The idea of a country or group of people taking over the US or even a city makes my skin crawl. I remember the movie Red Dawn from the 80′s where Russia invades, ugh, absolutely terrifying. We were in with a fun crowd that periodically cheered for the good guys, very fun. )
I agree with Misty about the idea of a group overtaking even one city being very horrifying. However, I truly enjoyed the movie and the story, as well. I saw it opening night (Friday) after the tragedy in Colorado. It was quite a different experience watching the movie and then checking during the gun scenes to see if was all one the screen or in the theater.
Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics, Olympics
What’s been your favorite moment so far?
Its hard to say but I think the Aussie girls winning Gold in the 4 X 100 freestyle relay.
US women winning the gold in gymnastics.
I agree

I like all the stories about the families that support their athletes. Very touching.
What’s been your least favorite moment of the Olympics so far?

What did you think of the Opening Ceremonies?
I liked it, thought it was well done.

If you’re in the US, what do you think of NBC’s coverage of the Games?
Not in the USA but for myself I am frustrated with the lack of some sports being covered. I know we want to see the Aussies but we also want to see some of the other sports. Even an update on things like shooting, archery etc which we are competing in. I am not sure what the NBC is like.
Horrible and frustrating as usual. The coverage of the the men’s team competition in gymnastics was especially bad.

Horrible. I think our announcers are way too cynical and Costas is downright smug and insulting.
What sport do you wish they’d show on TV/during primetime?
For an aussie most of this happens when I sleep. I wish in the highlights they would give way more of the gymnastics. (I know the aussies are not in the teams events but I want to see it I dont care who is participating).
Equestrian. Doesn’t matter what event.
Rachel, we are getting quite a bit of Equestrian I think because of the time it was on and also the fact Australia has a big history in it. But more would be nice.
I agree Equestrian! Come on!!!!!
What sport do you wish they’d show less of?
As much as I love swimming I wish they wouldn’t replay it as much as they are. Also less basketball and boxing would be good.
Swimming
ALPHAS
Who watches this Syfy show? Let’s chat about it!
It is shaping up to be a terrific season! So happy the show is back. And Gary? LOVE HIM.
The Dark Knight Rises
Who’s seen it and what did you think of it?

ADORED it.

There’s a remake of Red Dawn with Chris Hemsworth coming out later this year. Not Russians invading this time though.

Still praying for healing for those involved in the tragedy.
Going Sunday afternoon.
