It’s Open Mic Wednesday. What’s on your mind?
With all due respect to my non-US friends and followers, these first few questions will be pretty American-centric.
Ooh, I forgot to mention in the post itself—Nashville’s 4th of July fireworks show is consistently ranked in the top 10–15 displays in the country and lasts anywhere from 25 to 30 minutes—all timed perfectly with the music provided by the Nashville Symphony. It’s so big that we had to add a second night—the THIRD of July, with even more concerts and an abbreviated fireworks show! (Which I could hear from my house—that’s how loud it is. I’m about 5–6 miles from downtown.)
Happy Independence Day! What are you doing to celebrate?
Im not American but I respect the fact that the day my cat took its independence gets a special mention (about 12 or more years ago July 4th my cat left for good). I hope you all have a wonderful day. (Where I am the sun is shining and I have enjoyed a little of it hoping it help with the healing process.)
Cooking out at my sister’s house, celebrating “july” birthday’s in the family along with our countries independence. This is the ONLY holiday Annabelle has never spent in the hospital, so it’s a super special one in our house this year:-)
What’s your favorite patriotic song?
again, non-american here. but “america the beautiful is gorgeous.” anyone else ALWAYS think of “pollyanna” ( that hayley mills movie) when they hear it?
God bless the USA:-)
What’s your favorite patriotic movie?
okay. i’m not an american! buuut! I love the HBO john adams series and, even though it is ridiculously inaccurate “the patriot” — that mel gibson movie. my parents and i went to see it on the fourth of july when i was in high school
John Adams, The Patriot, and Independence Day. ID4 is one of those rare modern movies with a president’s speech that makes me proud to be an American.
I think I have a new annual movie tradition for the 4th—CAPTAIN AMERICA! And I’m seriously considering going to see THE AVENGERS again tonight (it would only be my second time).
Will you go to a fireworks show tonight, or stay in and watch one on TV?
Stay home. Cruddy that it’s so dry, as my brother had been amassing his mega fireworks over the last month, we usually do our own little display. bummer… but not worth burning down the neighborhood!
Now, questions for everyone!
What do you doodle when you doodle?
hearts and starts, the name of my kids, and the I <3 Scott Phillips. yeah, I'm an 8th grader in a 31-year-olds body:-)
If you could Ursula* any singer in the world for one day, whose singing voice would you steal?
*Little Mermaid reference
Sierra Boggess. She’s a Broadway actress, originated Ariel in the TLM musical, played Christine in Phantom and is currently playing Fantine in London. She’s AMAZING! Crystal clear soprano that’s never hard on the ears.
ruthie henshall. good gracious. saw her in ‘crazy for you’ back in the dawn of time. she was fantine in les miserables and ellen in ‘miss saigon’ and ….good golly… she has the most unique, powerful and wonderfully coloured voice
Have you ever wished on a star? Did your wish come true?
Yes I have but not sure what I wished for.
Yup. and Yup.
If Cinderella is correct and “a dream is a wish your heart makes,” what did your heart wish for last night?
Thats easy. that I would make it through the night and not collapse again. I also wished the nightmares would stop (came out of hospital yesterday after collapsing on Friday morning, being home alone after what I went through was a little scary) and I did survive the night and feeling a little better today. I know it will take time.
I hope Cinderella is wrong on that one, like, for our actual sleeping dreams and not “wake” dreams… cause I have some pretty crazy ones.
This is very much on Independence day. I am hoping and praying to come to American next year in May and will be doing a histroical trails tour. We go to where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the historic speech “Give me Liberty or give me death” was spoken. I also see some of the other sites like Valley Forge, Mount Vermon, The liberty Bell. I am so excited but now wondering if after my hospital visit if I can still go.
I hope you get to come, Jenny! There’s so much to see and do. I’ve never been to Philadelphia or Independence Hall but my mom has and she said it was amazing.
I am so excited to do this just this health setback and cost may delay it. I pray not. I am so excited to see Gettysburg
