If you could go back in time to 2002 and give yourself ONE piece of advice, what would you say to your younger self?

Join the carers support group and get some help. this would have been 5 years before I did get real help and 6 years before i joined carers SE. I would tell myself you dont have to be put up with the emotional blackmail and you do deserve your own life.

I would have gone ahead and bought the cute one bedroom condo in Orange County that was close to the lovely duck pond. Now I am in Texas, don’t like the weather and the property taxes.

Finish the book. Then write another and another. Don’t worry about learning how to write. Just write. Writing will sustain you.

I’d tell myself not to let my desire for love to overule the still small voice of God saying, “Not yet, he isn’t the right one.” I’d have saved myself a severely broken heart if only I’d listned. True, all experience is a learning experience, but the pain would have been less if I’d not tuned out.

You know how God told you not to teach for a while and you said, “Prove to me you mean it”? And you know that teaching job you thought you just HAD to have? Uhm… you shouldn’t take that job. (Took me 8 years to go back to the classroom after that. And now… it’s beautiful again, thank you, God!)

I think by the end of 2002, I’d finished making the biggest mistakes in my life. Go back 5 more years and I’d give myself an earful. =)
