It’s Open Mic Wednesday. What’s on your mind?

It’s Ruth Anderson’s birthday!!!!
Happy birthday, dear friend!
Okay, the new shows and returning shows have started premiering. So let’s discuss. Feel free to post spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, don’t read the posts. If you read the posts, don’t complain about the spoilers!!!
we start Hawaii 50 next Wednesday night but we do start glee tonight not sure if I will watch it yet. we start NCIS and NCIS LA next Tuesday. Thankfully its only a week behind unlike when it was about 6 months behind. So will avoid the posts today.
Hawaii Five-0
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I knew they would be bringing the series back with a bang for its sophomore season, but WOW!
First, I thought Steve was let off the hook just a little too easily. Sure, he was exonerated by the video footage, but he still committed crimes by breaking out prison, evading arrest, and assaulting SEVERAL people (the EMTs in the ambulance and the cop at the police station)—not to mention stealing a police cruiser!
But how about that twist there at the end. Has she been playing our Five-Ohs all along? Was she a plant—to infiltrate Five-0 and either try to lead them astray or to feed Wo Fat all of the info they had on him so he could stay one step ahead?
Oh—and how about the Danny-Rachel revelation? I knew it wasn’t going to work for them to have the two of them reconcile. As Rachel said at the end of last season—Hawaii was Stan’s home and the only reason she moved there in the first place; Danny just followed them there.
Not only was the humor back, it was better than ever—especially with the addition of Masi Oka to the cast! He was always one of my favorites on Heroes, and he was already a favorite recurring character from last season. (And his live tweets during the premiere Monday night were fun, too!)
John Locke, John Locke, John Locke. I just can’t get that character out of my head every time I see Terry O’Quinn now. Especially in the Hawaiian setting. It’ll be interesting to see if he can make this character strong and unique enough to get ol’ Locke out of my head every time he comes on screen.
I was “half-watching” with my family since I was doing homework, but I love that Max has been added as a regular. We all squealed at the ending –I did NOT expect that. I really liked her character, and was hoping that she’d be added on to the cast, but I guess it’s not going to happen now … AND how about those canisters??? My sister freaked when she saw those and immediately identified them as how they’re going to bring in Kensi from NCIS: LA for the “crossover” episode (the canisters weren’t recovered at the end of one of the “LA” epsiodes).
I had a feeling Danny and Rachel wouldn’t last … however, I’m glad they’re staying in Hawaii so Danny can still be a part of his daughter’s life.
I liked Terry O’Quinn’s character (whose name escapes me at the moment), do you think that he’ll be a part of the 5-0 team? I think he adds a good mentor-like figure to all the characters, which I think will be helpful for the them. =)
Castle
I’m about to watch this online before going to bed Tuesday night. I sort of got caught up by watching the three final episodes of last season On Demand this weekend. It’ll be interesting to see if my theories play out or if I’m way off base.
My biggest suspicion that the “top guy” the captain was trying to protect her from is the Mayor—from his comment to her in the season finale that he runs his own house and doesn’t answer to the mayor (or let the mayor push him around or however it was he phrased it). Off to go find out if I’m right . . .
Yay! Unlike H50, they didn’t try to wrap everything from the season finale up in the first episode. Still lots of mystery . . . but it will go back to being a recurring thread instead of the main focus of each week’s episode.
I was SO happy with Castle’s return…and the fact that they didn’t wrap last season’s cliffhanger ending up with a nice bow. Beckett and Castle have some interesting story arc possibilities this year!
Ringer
I caught the re-run of the series premiere on Monday night. Looks like it might be a pretty good show!
Haven’t managed to watch it yet, but it’s on my list.
Criminal Minds
*insert fan girl scream* JJ AND PRENTISS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this moment I don’t know if I’m more excited about that or leaving for St. Louis in the morning.
I’m not ashamed to admit I’m staying home from church mostly to watch Criminal Minds. And partly to pack and because my hair’s up in rollers.
The NCIS’es (for those who watch)
I’m “half watching” (homework again) NCIS: LA right now! My siblings taped “NCIS” for me, so I’m probably going to watch that after.
Looks like we finally get the revelation of who Callen is (sort of)?
Feel free to start a discussion thread of your favorite show’s new-season premiere!
I caught New Girl last night and thought it was very funny. The first episode lived up to my expectations. We’ll see if they can keep it up without going to far in the wrong direction (for my tastes). Hoping to watch 5-0 and NCIS tonight with my husband, can’t watch those without him.
Alphas
Is anyone else watching this show on SyFy?
Oh my goodness, I caught the tail end of a marathon this weekend (stayed up until 2:30am to watch two episodes). I liked it, but I don’t know if I’m going to follow it … I’ve got too many shows to keep track of right now, LOL. I might try and watch episodes that have certain guest stars (e.g. “Star Trek” alumni). =)
Awww, what a great surprise!!! Thank you (and yes, we’re getting sushi VERY SOON!!!!).
I see that the Carol awards are coming up this week. I was looking at the nominee list and wonder about something. With sooooo many Amish/Mennonite books out there I think they should have a seperate category just for those. If I’m not mistaken all three of the finalists in the Long Contemporary Romance category are Amish/Mennonite based books. Those have become their own class of books I think. There are alot of other good non-Amish ones that should have been in that category. It fits them better I think. They have seperate categories for Suspense and Mystery why not for these?
Sylvia, I wrote about that a little bit a few weeks ago:
http://kayedacus.com/2011/08/16/why-both-contemporary-and-historical/
(in the section Which does better in the market)
In the discussion with my agent about my two contemporary proposals being rejected (mentioned in yesterday’s post), what I learned is that publisher is basically putting contemporary romance on hold and focusing their publishing efforts on historicals and, of course, on their best-selling Amish-romance author’s books. I’ve been told I’m more than welcome to submit proposals for historicals . . . but since I haven’t, so far, ever come up with ideas for historicals with American settings, that may not happen. We’ll see.
That’s sad about contemporary romance not being published by that publishing house. There are so many new publishing houses I keep finding that I didn’t know about previously. Would you like using one of those if you could or did you have an exceptionally good relationship and royalty paycheck with your usual publisher?
And here I was hoping Amish might peak soon and start fading out.
That is a pretty awesome cake, Ruth.
