It’s Open Mic Wednesday. What’s on your mind?

The road to hell is paved with too many adverbs. I am fond of ‘clearly, plainly and abruptly.’
Clearly, I should abruptly realize that I’m wrong. Toss in plainly, mix with Italian dressing and gag when the salad arrives.

I saw that the Genesis has a Speculative category this year. What do you think that includes? Everything that isn’t “real life” stuff? Like vampires? Time travel? Faeries? Genies in a bottle?

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 11:27 am

Speculative is basically Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Allegory . . . and everything that falls between.

I’ve had a headache for three days now, I’m starting to go insane!

I’m also reading Nightshade by Ronie Kendig. AMAZING!

I have read both Nightshade and Digitalis and think they are both wonderful books! I can’t wait to read the next one coming out this summer. I really was moved by the missionary story in Nightshade and would love a book (unrelated to this series) with him as the main character. I’ve told the author this and she said she had never thought about it, but would put it in her story idea list.

If you like those two you NEED to read Dead Reckoning by her also. The cover is a bit off putting but the book is – in my opinion – her best.

I’ll have to look for that one. Thank you!

I woke up with a headache today. I’m blaming it on the excessive amount of frosting that was on the cupcake I ate yesterday (see the Facebook page for a photo!), but it’s probably because there’s a massive front moving in that’s going to give us severe weather tomorrow.

      • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 3:27 pm

Don’t blame it on the cupcake. It is never the cupcake’s fault. All cupcakes have permanent immunity from prosecution. :0)

        • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:08 pm

That’s why an entire show devoted to “Cupcake Wars” is just wrong. What would one cupcake have against another cupcake, anyway? :D

Never blame the cupcake…it’s the weather!

What’s on my mind….sleep! Oh how I miss being able to sleep for 8 straight hours….. I also wish I had more time in the day for reading!

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 3:05 pm

And I need to stop sleeping quite so much. But it’s one thing that I’m really good at with little to no effort. ;-)

      • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 4:33 pm

Oh sure, rub it in! LOL

        • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 4:53 pm

The problem is, it’s hard to get any work done when I can barely drag myself out of bed . . . and then feel lethargic for the rest of the day.

The word counter has some activity. Yes!!! :) I can’t wait to read this book. I have a feeling it will be my favorite, but won’t know until I read it and TAOR. Kaye, I noticed on your Facebook page that you want ideas for TFP. Are you planning to blog about this too? Do you mind if we post about that here?

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 11:27 am

Go ahead and post here any ideas you have!

        Here are a few ideas.

        * They should attend a concert. I rarely read books where the characters do that.

        * Have a scene like I’ve seen in some movies where the heroine is say at a buffet-type eatery. She’s going there for some good food and conversation with friends. The hero shows up and keeps following her around talking. Heroine goes down through the buffet line and the hero keeps giving her advice on which food to take and everything else. He comes and sits with her and her friends and talks when they want to have girl-time. Her friends think it’s funny and keep teasing her. The waitress comes by and keeps re-filling the hero’s drink, but hardly pays attention to the rest of them.

        * We all love it when the heroine gets hurt and the hero has to doctor her. Make the heroine get a bad scrape or cut that the hero has to patch-up. There’s nothing like a handsome man to bandage up the lady and give her lots of tender care. Remember the unforgettable cold/sickness scene in You’ve Got Mail? I still get butterflies in my stomach when Tom Hanks leans over Meg Ryan and tells her to be quiet by placing his fingers on her lips. Sigh…the expression on their faces. We can’t forget him making her tea and bringing her daisies too. “They’re such a friendly flower.” – Kathleen Kelly

Am reading Book Number 18 for this year! Love to read and am presently reading Judgment Day by Wanda Dyson (my first one by her); very good.

Wow–18 books already this year??? You’re a rock star!

Busted a knee working out. Yuck. Hate not being active.
Oh well… back to the couch.

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 2:51 pm

Yikes! Hoping your knee recovers soon!

      • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 8:03 pm

Yay!!!!! Kaye…received today, “Ransom’s Crossing,” and Ransome’s Honor.”

        Thank you! Thank you!

Can’t wait to start reading your books.

Staying up late or getting up early?
Everyone knows I’m a night owl, so obviously my answer is staying up late. Sunrise, schmunrise. Give me a moonset any night!

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 3:44 pm

I am so with you on that. Most nights I don’t get to bed before midnight.

The bad thing, I have to start work at 8 am. :(

The good thing, I work from home, so I don’t have to worry about being awake enough to drive.

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 4:35 pm

Well, these days I stay up late and get up at early hours. The joys of having an itty bitty at home! I will say I am NOT a morning person. Don’t talk to me until I’ve had some caffeine and even then, tread carefully. lol

I’m definitely an early bird, both a.m. and p.m. Early to bed and early to rise, I’m programmed.

  9. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 2:52 pm

    Salty, spicy, sweet, or sour?
Depends on my mood, but most days, I’d take spicy!

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 3:33 pm

I’m hooked on sweet AND spicy right now. I just found this fantastic sauce that I’m putting on everything (for dipping, cooking, marinade, etc.):
      http://www.countrybobs.com/

The apple chipotle flavor is INCREDIBLE! Unfortunately it’s only available on line. The All Purpose sauce is available at the store, though, and it’s also pretty good!

Salty…I gave up sugar when I got my “adult” braces. :(

  10. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 2:53 pm

    Nuts, seeds, or potato chips?
    What’s your favorite snackfood?

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 3:34 pm

      Chocolate

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 4:36 pm

I’d have to say chips. I have been craving salty foods lately.

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:10 pm

Potato Chips. I just bought a bag of Lays Sun-Dried tomato something-or-other potato chips, and they’re AMAZING. And the bag is pretty, too . ..

      And Girl Scout Cookies. Samoas.

    Corset vs. Girdle
Which would you rather wear—an 1850s corset or a 1950s girdle?

    • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 2:57 pm

This one is actually from the 1880s . . .

      • Wednesday, February 23, 2011 2:59 pm

Oh, and the big hook on the front, according to the book 19th Century Fashion in Detail from the V&A Museum, is to keep the petticoats from riding up and giving the wearer a lump at the smallest part of the waist.

Wow, I’m surprised how bright a pink that color is for the 1880′s … =) I’d say it’d depend on the outfit I’d be wearing on top. For one of those gorgeous 20+ yards of fabric gowns … I’d sacrifice some comfort for a moment in a dress like that. =)

Wow, pretty flashy for the 1800′s! Love the color!

    Blasts from the Past
Who’s someone that the internet (social media, e-mail, etc.) has allowed you to get in touch with after you’d given up on ever talking to that person again?

I moved to America from England 25 years ago. I lost contact with many of my friends over the years. Facebook has allowed me to reconnect with them and it has been an amazing adventure. Old photos have been posted, old jokes resurrected, it’s as though we were never apart. Seeing everyone again has given me a great appreciation for the life I have lived and the people God has placed in my life over the years. I have been overwhelmed by the amazing love that has been poured into me through the people he connected me with each step of the way. For all the negative things I hear about fb and other social networks giving a false sense of connection I have to say that it gave me my long lost friends back. We may never actually see each other again physically in this life, but I can visit with them anytime I want via the ‘net.

I’ve actually reconnected with several people I started first grade with – one of whom I honestly thought was dead! He isn’t.

What about Primeval Kaye? I have seen you tweet about it before, but not for that last few weeks. Have you seen the season finale?

I was a late-comer to the show and just started watching this season. Of course I then had to got watch all the old ones on You Tube (no netflix for me, yet).

I saw this on your Twitter Feed. What’s a good jet-setter job for a British man that would allow him to come to the States for several months and still get his work done?

He could be one of those ambassadors for a clothing designer that is under contract to only wear clothes from that designer during that time. Lady Helen Taylor just ended a contract with Armani. Lady Helen is the daughter of The Duke and Duchess of Kent. The duke is a first cousin to HM Queen Elizabeth II. Lady Helen is an ambassador for a children’s cancer charity. I suppose you could tie that in with something in the U.S. Here’s more information.
