Help needed for 2011 blog schedule
Since it’s the week before Christmas, and I still have some overdue writing and editing to get finished, this will be my only blog post this week until Friday. But it’s very important, so please don’t skip it!
I’ve come up with a schedule for 2011 of what kinds of posts I’ll be doing each day of the week. Some of them you’re already familiar with, one of them, I need a great deal of help with.
Here’s the schedule:
Mondays—Writer’s Window (a great lineup scheduled through June already!)
Tuesdays—craft of writing/publishing industry/marketing/writing business topic*
Wednesdays—Open Mic Wednesday
Thursdays—Thursday Thought Provoker**
Fridays—Fun Friday
Here’s what I need help with:
*Tuesdays—Take a look at the Writing Series Index to see what topics I’ve already covered there. Then, post a list of topics or questions you have (pertaining to craft, publishing, marketing, or any aspect of the fiction-writing business) that you’d like to see me address on Tuesdays next year. Oh, and since every other day of the week has an official title, help me come up with a title for Tuesdays.
**Thursday Thought Provokers—I’m sure there are times when a question comes to mind that you’d love to put to a diverse group of people to let them weigh in on it and see what they think. Any time you have one of these that you’d be willing to let me use as my Thursday Thought Provoker, e-mail it to me, because I’m sure there will be weeks when I’m drawing a blank.

Hey Kaye,
Hope you’re doing well and enjoying your time with your family in La. I was wondering if you would consider having me as a guest for Writer’s Window in July when my book comes out? Figured since you’re working on your blogs for the year, it might be a good time to ask!
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a truly blessed New Year, friend.
Patty
Of course! I just sent you an e-mail with the open dates.
Tuesday’s Writer Tidbits or Tuesday’s Writing Treasures
Why is there braille on a drive-through ATM?
Bwahahaha! I’ve always wondered that myself!
Kaye, I don’t know if this works for Thursdays or for Tuesdays under writing business, but I’m always interested in seeing how other freelance writers and editors handle the business side of things–setting up shop, making goals for the month to reach target income, all the stuff you have to do that isn’t writing but is still so necessary.
Have a great Christmas!
Training Tuesday??
I’m with Sally. I’d like to know more about handling the business end of being a writer, including the money part of it. I’ll be getting paid for my first contract in 2011 and it’s a little scary for me on that side of things.
I’m sure I will appreciate anything you post.
I had fun looking at some of the archived articles. You’ve already covered so many topics! It’s hard to come up with another one, but I’m interested to know how other writers plot a story without having it seem formulaic. There are a handful of outlining devices that seem to work well (at least in our culture. Might be different in other cultures, and that would be interesting to compare, too.) All the breadth of storytelling seems to start there, yet there’s a world of possible variations. Some stories (the Nancy Drew series we all loved as children) stick so close to the formula that any fourth grader instinctively knows there will be a mysterious invitation by the end of Chapter 1. In other stories, it’s hard to discern the structure. In still others (just read Dickens’ A Christmas Carol), the structure is blatant, but we don’t mind. So how do we strike the perfect blend between originality and expectations?
Looking forward to your 2011 Tuesdays teaching tips and techniques.
