We Can Never Thank Them Enough

It is easy to take liberty for granted,
when you have never had it taken from you.
~Author Unknown

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

The most persistent sound which reverberates through men’s history
is the beating of war drums.
~Arthur Koestler

I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask,
“Mother, what was war?”
~Eve Merriam

But fame is theirs—and future days
On pillar’d brass shall tell their praise;
Shall tell—when cold neglect is dead—
“These for their country fought and bled.”
~Philip Freneau

    Thanks for this post! With my dad and both brothers in the military, Veterans Day is important for our family.

    In case you couldn’t guess . . . the first three photos are of my father, who was not only a Vietnam Veteran, but a 20-year career officer in the Army. Following that is my grandfather (with my dad) in 1944. Gramps served in the Army Air Corps (I believe) stationed in England during WWII. The final image is my dad’s step-grandfather.

    Thanks! This is a beautiful post. I stopped over from Brandilyn’s blog Forensics and Faith. I loved what you said about Job. I’ve often felt a little guilty that while many hate the book I find it beautiful and comforting. God is so vivid through those last verses. Definitely a favorite group of scriptures for me as well. Nice to “meet” you.
