For Non-Writers: What Topics Would You Like to See Here?
Sylvia pointed out in one of her comments yesterday that since she’s not a writer, sometimes she doesn’t get involved in the discussions/leave comments on posts that are focused solely on writing. Even though this blog started out as a place for me to teach/expound upon fiction writing, I also know that I’ve gained some blog followers who aren’t writers but who like to “hang out” here.
So what are some topics you’d like to see discussed here? While I’m still committed to teaching several craft-of-writing series throughout the year, I’d also like to include content that is of interest to my non-writing readers . . . without straying too far away from the main topic of writing (and reading and analyzing and understanding) fiction.
(Oh, and writer-folks, you’re more than welcome to chime in on what non-writing topics you’d like to see here, too.)
I like it when you tell your perspective on things that are either about books or movies. For example, all that Jane Austin movie stuff. I never knew. You have a different opinion and a different way of looking at things… makes you think. Also I like the book meetings and stuff since I can’t go to that stuff, it’s a good inside look. Like a behind the scenes, which is cool, because I’ve never known how that stuff goes either.
I enjoy seeing a smart person’s take on modern romance novels. It would be fun you posted reviews, though I guess you couldn’t do reviews of authors at your publishing houses (or at least only when one of them writes something spectacular.)
Hi. I’ll have to think some more on this subject, but here are a couple of things I would like to hear about. I would like to read interviews with your editor and your publishers to find out what goes on on their end. I toured the Bob Jones University press building (back in high school; about ten or eleven years ago) with a school group, but confess I don’t remember a whole lot about it. What do all those publishing houses like Barbour and Harvest House do in their buildings after you have given them your book? What does your editor do? Does he/she work freelance or strictly with one publishing house? Does he/she work in their home or at the publishing house?
Oh, one more thing. GET THE NOVEL IN PROGRESS NUMBERS UP! There, I reminded you. Now I will go back to my corner.:)
