OK I’m not sure if this counts toward the contest or not but I’m giving it a try. Since it was the contest rules I thought it might. The contest sounds very interesting and I’d love to win an autographed first edition of your book. I love writing but have never pursued it for fear of failure. I’m hoping your blog will help me get over that and encourage me to write more. Thanks and congrats on 500!

You’re correct, but I’m not sure what that technically makes him. I think I’d go with second step-cousin for the sake of keeping it short? Whatever it is, I’m cooler by default of being blood related.

One of those three others he knows is my step-nephew (would that make him Caleb’s second cousin by marriage? second cousin once removed by marriage?). It’s always fun to have multiple people with the same name in one family.

Eilleen: I heartily support anyone that wants to name their child Caleb. I’ve only met about three others in my lifetime. Apparently it comes off as Middle Eastern on paper though, because 50% of the time a teacher called my name for roll for the first time, they would pronounce my name “Cuh-LEB Uh-BELL” instead of “CAY-leb AY-bull.” You really wouldn’t think it was that complicated. Then again, maybe it’s my parents fault for making my first and last name so similar (Caleb Abel).

Leslie: Of course that wouldn’t be an insult. Why would it be? She’s going to be a famous author! I mean, sure, she has some awful tastes in movies (*cough*Doom*cough*), but that’s certainly not something I refuse to look past in order to accept her as the fun-to-make-fun-of older cousin that she is.
